    Mercury blackmax 150

I would recommend a factory service manual. The timing is critical and is the synch between carbs and ign timing. The service manual will guide you thru it. This motor is not the same as a lawnmower or chainsaw.

    06 Johnson 90 2 stroke slow activation

When temp switch detects overheat, it shorts the tan/blue wire to ground. So install it cold, unconnected and put an ohmmeter on the tan/blue wire and see if it is grounded to the block. If not check the balance of the tan wire from it for a bare spot that could ground when it is connected.

Mercruiser Throttle Control Repair/Replace 4k Gen II

It never hurts to take the control apart and see what is wrong. If it is a commonly broken part, you may be able to get a replacement. Backup plan is to figure out a fix. Once you take many of those side mount controls out of the panel, they are open, and you need to take it out to replace...

    Lifting Boat off Trailer

You know, you do not need to lift the boat off the trailer, to get the trailer out from under it, right? Drop the trailer tongue, and stack cement blocks under the stern corners, pad tops with wood. For my 21 footer, I use two 8inch blocks each for the first 2 courses, then a 12 inch block and...

Help Please Newbie 1976 Mercury 850 Tilt Trim Wiring. Serial number 4425319.

It is very hard to see from your pictures, however, I had one of those units and am familiar with it. My unit had a single solenoid for up, and down was wired directly into a heavy duty switch. Your 3 amp toggle switch will not last long using it in the down direction. Both your switches...

    Lifting Boat off Trailer

Scott in addition to your monster steel support frame I see jackstands under the bow and stern. Why do you need the monster steel support frames? Also, do you want to bet your life that the stern and bow eyes will hold and not tear out? I sure don't! Cement blocks hold up houses, easily...

    Transom replacement instructions

Youtube has lots of videos on the subject. Look for one on "replacing the transom from the outside. The hardest part is digging out the old residue around the perimeterof the transom. When I did mine this year, I did it from the outside. I used 1-1/2oz matt on the inside and between the two...

    service manual

If the leakage comes from the throttle plates in the center of the carbs, the floats are likely not sealing properly, allowing fuel to leak into the throats. The carbs would need to be cleaned and rebuilt with new gaskets, floats and inlet needles and seats.

    service manual

Those Il6 motors have a small rubber hose from the lower part of the crankcase to the upper main bearing. They recirculate oil. You might see if that is the leaker. They also have balance hoses on the starboard side of the block. They can leak fuel as well. Try to get a Mercury Service...

    Lifting Boat off Trailer

If you want to be safe, Put cement blocks under the transom corners and under the bow. Those stern and bow eyes may hold the weight, or they may fail at any time, as they are not designed for that. if they fail, you will hate it.

Vintage remote Merc trim pump hydraulic drawing

Gee, I would expect you would need some fuel, plus a short to get a fire going. Only a battery cable short could start a fire without gasoline or ether.

    1987 Stratos 179V fuel gauge

If the fuel gauge is standard, it should be set for the new sender. They also do not last forever.

2002 johnson 115 2 stroke starts then dies, heavy smoke.

Are you using the oil injection pump? If so, they will pump a lot of extra oil, if the gasoline line has an air leak.

    1999 Johnson 90 hp -- No Spark

Try the marineengine web site for a service manual. You will need your model number. Check your wiring harnesses. On my '98 Johnny, some parts melted, shorting some wires.

    06 Johnson 90 2 stroke slow activation

Try the Marineengine web site for a service manual. You will need your model number. I suggest you test your two head heat sensors. If either of the tan/blue wires are connected to ground, when the sensor is cool, it is defective.

    Wiring Diagram

Try the maxrules web site. They have lots of motor wiring diagrams. BTW - You probably do need exactly the same year or HP of your motor. Just the family. i.e. about the same year, in your case looper or crossflow, 90* V or 60*V, the Special motors usually have the cheaper charging systems...

    1988 Invader

So you want a description of what the did when new, 34 years ago? Better to stick your head under the dash and trace the ones you can and note the colors of the other wires off the switches. Now get a generic wire color diagram for a boat and try to match them up. Now you have narrowed...

    Tachometer

What do those wires go to? What part of the wiring harness are you showing us? What kind of control do you have? Does it have a built in ign key? Those are almost the ign keyswitch wire colors, but not exactly.

    Plywood for deck

Normally 1/2 plywood is fine. measure the distance between the stringers to see the span that needs to be supported. I use pressure treated plywood and pressure treated solid dimensional lumber for decking and stringers. It must be completely dried out before use. use stainless steel screws...
