    Top pin in pic is the latch pin to hold in place, bottom is fuel inlet, something in your pic doesnt look right.....Your fuel line plug is a cheapie, sorry but that is what many fuel lines come with nowadays. I always prefered the older cast metal ones which were rebuildable.

    There are many things I woukd stay with OEM if possible, but a carb kit should not be an issue, however for 6$, for those couple bucks...I would go oem.

    Another thing you might consider is a bead blaster if you have acess to one. Much easier than sanding, then a primer coat then a couple finnish coats...your boat will look like new. !!

    If only the first few threads are damaged, another option is to remove the head and run the tap/ thread chaser from the inside out. This will keep all the threads in alignment while correcting the damage. When you come in from the outside, you MUST have the thread chaser in perfect alignment...

    The nice part about these poly tanks is there are no rust worries !! As long as there are no worn spots, cuts or any other damage to the outside, why bother....being a 94, you are well past the early days when plastic tanks first came out and they had seams that could leak and other issues...

    As a kid I remember seeing boats similiar to that along the Portage river in Port Clinton Oh where the old family cottage was. Many of the old boats posted on here are familiar to this 72 yr old....been around boats most of my life, nice to see the oldies !!

    If a two stroke it is normal as left over fuel residue inside the cylinders evaporates leaving just the two stroke oil. First start burns up all that extra oil resudue. If a four stroke engine then some compression testing should be done to check the motors health

    One trick I have used, is to get black and red zip ties, tie together all pos and neg wires, then it is simple to reconnect them, don't even need to use my pea brain to do it !!

    The new treated stuff is crap !!! I was forced ro use the " green space" new type of lumber and it rotted thru in 15 years....however the untreated regular lumber is still good !! Side by side outdoors....dont waste money on new type treated lumber

    I have the 4 cyl 2 stroke 40 hp Merc...awesome motor, great power, will outrun most other 40 hp motors on similiar boats. Idles so slow you can almost hear each cylinder fire. And easy on fuel compared to my other 2 cyl 40 hp motors..

    2020 3.5 HP merc only runs at half choke.

    Moisture in the fuel, mabey some crud...probably a gummed up carb from sitting. Previous owner did not run out or drain carb before storage. Clean tank and fuel system thoroughly, probably gummed up.
