    The philips screw if equipped with it , is a bearing lockscrew.----It has no " bearing " on the shift function in any way.

    No need to do any flushing , just fill with the premium blend.-----The issue is with the forward spring and clutch.----Stop running it and initiate repairs.----Easy fix in my opinion.----I developed a method to repair this about 45 years ago.

    Try using a jumper wire to test this yourself.----Those rarely fail.-----Might just be a wiring issue !

    The 20 Johnson has the exact same gearcase.----Painted white instead of blue like the 18 Evinrude.

    Pull the cord.-----Lock the sheave.-----Remove rope.----Install new rope rope.----Let spring recoil and pull rope in.-----Adjust as needed.
