    Some have an optional battery charging coil under the flywheel.----There is no need to use a drill when testing for spark.

    Back in the day we had J4J ( J4C ) for motors with a thermostat.----J6J ( J6C ) for motors without a thermostat.----No idea why anyone would want to run J8C in one of these simple motors.-----The ignitions on these are simple and easy to keep in good condition !

    Fact----You cannot have 3 bad coils.----You can test the charge coils and sensor coils under the flywheel.----No need to remove the flywheel.-----What ohms do you get on brown to brown wire.-----Charged the battery ?----Load tested the battery ?-----Taken the starter apart for inspection / ohm...

    Swapping parts out gets expensive in a hurry.----Find your local friendly boat shop.----They can get this simple ignition sorted out while you go for a coffee.

    No that little pump does NOT pull fuel from the tank.----Find the VRO pump big black plastic housings.

    Assistance with 1984 8HP Evinrude

    It is possible that a different lower unit has been fitted.----For a few years they installed some that did not use a clutch dog.-----Make sure you replace the seals as water in these units is a big issue.

    Just fuel is not the cause.----Too much fuel will SLOW the motor down !!----You need the extra air and fuel to make it run wild.----Checked the belt timing ?----Checked for a sheared flywheel key ?

    Oil debates go on and on.----I would use 25W-40 as per Mercruiser manuals.

    It should start right up with the right procedure.----And if it is in good condition.-----So find out what is wrong.----Post the compression numbers here.----And what is your starting procedure ??

    Hard to make a mistake on assembly of the pump.----They always worked for me.-----So is the impeller a factory original part or something else?----Is the intake screen behind the prop clear and not collapsed ?
