    Have seen some " chipped / broken " on the outer edges of the Mercury 110 model 9.8 HP.----Likely due to over revving.

    What numbers are on the tag on the upper carburetor ?----What number is on the high speed jet ( orifice plug ) inside the carburetor bowl. ?-----Carburetors do not appear to have slow speed mixture adjustment feature.----The idle air jet seems to have been tampered with and abused !

    Your motor is perhaps an 85 model or newer and 60 / 70 HP.---Perhaps had automatic oil injection that has been removed.-----Fuel pump is not mounted correctly.----So simply ignore my advice in post #7-----

    You did clean the high speed jet ( orifice plug ) that id found in the bottom of the bowl ?-----Post some pictures of this motor if no model # is found.

    1999 15 hp runs great but is very hard to start. I just changed the water pump. But im sure thats not the problem

    Those wonderful 9.9 / 15 hp 2 strokes were last marketed in 2007.------Many folks will realize how simple / reliable / easy to maintain those were.

    1985 evinrude E20CRCO misfire

    Top plug might not be firing.----Fuel pump diaphragm might be ruptured.----Throttle plate might be opening too early.----Low speed mixture might need to be adjusted / opened.---Easy diagnosis and easy fixes.

    Find yourself a 6 HP 2 stroke Johnson / Evinrude.----1966 to 1979.-----Wonderful motors.-----Easy / cheap to maintain.-----visit ----leroysramblings-----To learn about older motors.

    Those use the same lower unit as their 2 strokes.-----Treid and proven water pumps.----Have to ask.-----Water is 15 cm above the impeller when testing?

    Motors and drives are easy to repair.-----Rotten plywood cores not so much.

    Post the compression numbers on that 50 year old motor.----Set the low speed needles at 5/8th turn out.---Is thermostat in place and working ?------Put boat in water and do final adjusting of low speed mixture.-----You should also install a new water pump impeller now.

    Fresh water / short season is even a better choice.
