    Have to agree.----I like slotted heads.----Soft stainless hex heads are easy to damage / strip.

    1982 Evinrude 2hp gearcase full of water

    Just 2 screws to remove lower unit.----Then remove water pump.----Driveshaft pulls out.-----And 2 screws to remove propshaft bearing carrier.-----Fairly easy to remove seals and push in new ones I think.

    Perhaps there is a hole corroded in a casting.----Should be easy to find.

    Start it on a hose.----Spray some oil into the carburetors.-----Extra smoke might help pinpoint the leak.-----I doubt those hefty castings are warped.=====Have you replaced exhaust cover gaskets ?

    These older motors " warn " you when it time to clean the points.----And the DUAL ignition system will allow it to run on one cylinder.----It has 2 seperate ignitions , one for each cylinder.

    You watched the wrong video !!.-----That was for newer motors.------You have to REMOVE one of those screws in order to release the shift rod.

    Once you inspect a 1954 model 10 HP and overhaul it properly it will be a cheap motor to own.-----No expensive " fail suddenly " parts on it.-----New impeller every 10 years and gear oil once in a while !

    Does spark jump a gap of at least 1/4" on both leads?----Is compression gauge tested and accurate ?----Agreed remove cylinder head for inspection.----Remove bypass covers,---Rings could be stuck.-----Check for play in wristpin bushings.------If going ahead then look into upgrading.------Install...

    Motor is NOT an 87 model.-----Looks like a 92 / 93 to me based on graphics.----Guaranteed to be 89 or newer !!

    Back in the day I used to be on 17' boat.----A 1966 mode 100 HP Johnson.-----3 full 6 gallon tanks.-----When you plugged in the 3rd tank it was 2 more skiers.----And we were heading to the pump.-----With a built in tank you would want to make sure your gauge is accurate.

    Repeat.------It does not matter where the magneto plate is as per earlier posts.------The points have to open at the correct time to get SPARK.----Timing relative to the piston position is looked after automatically.

    What is triboron ???------A 2 stroke uses oil in the gas to get the LUBRICATING oil onto the internal parts.------

    The points are " fixed " in position to generate the spark and need to be.-----They need to open based on the magnets rotating around the coils.-----The timing of spark to piston position is done by rotating the magneto plate.
