    Post pictures of that part and area where it is installed.-----But I am willing to bet a small sum that you don't have to remove the power head.-----Or maybe I will look at a similar motor later today.

    If you turn the key and the starter is working then I would say that the solenoid is hooked up !!

    Normally the starter cable would not be fused.

    Buy the $10 tester.------Or 2 pieces of wire glued onto some cardboard.----Put 3/8" gap between the wires.------One end into sparkplug boot.-----Other end clipped to the block.-----Crank it over and see if you have spark at the gap.-----Proof of a capable ignition system.

    Well -----The electric car may be near 100% efficient itself.-----But fossil fuel generating stations to charge those batteries are in the order of 40% or less efficient.-----Electric cars will not be cheap transportation.----But change is constant.

    There is no reason for a 76 model to be hard to start.-------If motor is in good condition it will start easily.----But you must use the correct procedure !!

    Well , I started on outboards in 1968 !-----These motors are easy to fix.

    Timing on these motors is fixed / set at the factory.----Needs no adjustment unless someone molests the linkages.----Best run to a shop and have this issue sorted out.

    This topic and question will not go away. ---Takes more than a carburetor change.-----There were some internal changes. to make more power.----And I believe crankshaft was balanced to allow it to rev at 6000 RPM.-----The 18 / 20 HP was rated at 4500 RPM.-----The 25 was rated at 5500 RPM.

    A lot of depends on the type of terrain. ----Lots of hills and range is going to be suffering.-----And in winter , the heater will draw power from batteries and range suffers.

    There is a little square vapor pump. ----Seen right above the thingy with the red lever. -----That little pump came out in 1967 on small motors as a fuel pump. ----It was adapted to get rid of vapor on those motors. ---Repair kit is available.

    Check the flywheel key . -----Post compression test values.----Should be around 140 psi.

    Nope-----It is a bar used to support the motor while tilted up and roaring down the road !!!!
