just so you are aware, be prepared.....the late 80's and early 90's weekenders will be suffering from transom issues
make sure you go into the project prepared for the worst
remember 4 things
boat builders do not use foam unless they absolutely have to
usually they have to for both flotation and structure since they cheaped out elsewhere
they use the absolute minimum amount of foam needed for both.
they never care about sound
if there is foam, its needed.
Bayliner and other entry level Brunswick brands removed the hour meters as people were getting upset that their boat with only 20 hours on it that sat in their yard without use for 2 years was out of warranty.
Other than for service intervals, an hour meters is almost useless
3.0 has balancer, 2.5 has pulley
3.0 says 3.0 or 181 on port side of block
2.5 says 153 on port side of the block
The 153 has 3.875" bore
The181/3.0 has 4" bore and a taller deck
some marine oil pans had a small baffle around the pickup and a windiage tray in the late 80's
later ones just had the windiage tray
I wouldnt use an aluminum oil pan unless you really coat it well. especially in salt water. it will corrode
the pan also changed over the years. what year is...
You're drive came with A series if diesel, and B series if gas/petrol. C series are Stainless B series
J series came out a few years ago as a cheaper variation
if your boat had wood, redo it in wood
if you want to go without wood, use coosa or other.
if you want to go over foam, talk to a naval architect for proper layup. you may have to go with 4 layers of 1704 minimum
no use attempting to keep the old stringers
no
you replace manifolds, and if in salt water, you do it often
BOAT does stand for Break Out Another Thousand.
it is a hobby that is more expensive than building hotrods and racing, and alsmost as expensive as owning an airplane.
if they are not deep cycle batteries, doesnt matter how heavy duty you think they are, you will kill them.
you dont use deep cycle batteries for cranking application
