Enough gas to get back to the ramp

with any boat, regardless of portable tank or built-in tank you use the rule of 1/3'rds 1/3 the fuel to get where you are going 1/3 the fuel to get back 1/3 the fuel as reserve because wind/current/etc. so at 1/3 of the tank used, or just under 3/8 of a tank, turn around and head back.

    Ford 302 pinging

you should be OK at 34 degrees total advance with a short-stroked motor if your fuel checks out, try 8 degrees base timing. try to be about 32 degrees total advance by 3000 RPM. you need to verify that you are getting 24 degrees advance and not more.

    different prop

you need to understand gear ratios engine RPM's and hull weight has nothing to do with top speed. you installed the wrong ratio drive. your only choice is to go as low of pitch that you can buy to get the RPM's back up, or replace the 5.0 with a 5.7

    different prop

you have the wrong gear ratio. best you can do is drop down to a 13p in a 4 blade. you are killing your motor by lugging it

    different prop

welcome aboard what WOT RPM are you getting with your 14.5 x 17? are the blades cupped? you sure about the 5.0/1.47:1 ratio? usually the 1.47:1 is behind a 5.7 and a 1.62:1 is behind a 5.0

    Old I/Os = Money Pits?

it takes experience buying many that are trash to understand the one gem. and as I stated prior, that gem will have been wiped down with a diaper and the price will reflect it. average boat restoration is 15-20 gallons of resin, about 4 sheets of plywood, about 30-50 yards of cloth since...

    How to access stickies

when iBoats switched forum software a few years ago, many of the stickies went kablooey. if you can report the stickies to the Mods, they can usually dig and find the original links and fix them. @colonel_sanders
