    Use a timing light on it and see if it is an ignition miss.------Open low speed mixture 1 /4 turn at a time and see if miss goes away.----Post a video of the PORT side of the block .----Showing the adjustable block on that thin rod that goes to the towershaft.----Show this while it is idling.

    No sealant.----Do not turn shift rod during your work.----Better yet check shift rod height before re-assembly !

    Is this is a long shaft motor meant for a sailboat ?------Those holes were sometimes used to get better thrust in REVERSE.-----Keeps exhaust away from messing with prop in reverse.-----Do not like this answer ?---- then talk to a dealer.

    There is no ---" quick start " ----On an 86 model motor.-----Make sure both carburetors are CLOSED at idle and that they both open at the correct time.

    I will be teaching the 12 year old grandson to maintain this magneto on a 59 model 5.5 HP.----I was repairing these magnetos at a shop when I was 18 years old.----So in my opinion it is not difficult.-----Visit ----leroysramblings----- to learn everything about these simple motors !!

    89' rude 20 or 72 rude 25 which is better?

    What does " dependable " mean to you?-----I believe the 72 model has 2 ( two ) ignition systems.----If one fails the motor will still run on 1 cylinder to get you home.-----But you have to know / want to learn how to maintain that simple magneto.-----Or if you know nothing than get the 89 model...

    If you can not adjust idle stop screw to slow it down then check flywheel key.-----And with those compression numbers I would take the head off to inspect cylinders.----And does tell tale hose come off a fitting on the side of the block or the top ?

    Clean paint on upper shift rod.----Slide nut up.----Remove expensive little keeper.----It is split.-----Remove lower unit.

    Well----8" above the impeller is 8" above the impeller.----If you think 4" above the trim tab is good then good luck with it.
