    I would take the starter apart for inspection.-----Very easy to do.-----Yes when folks get near a boat they have an extreme desire to get the motor started.-----After driving for say an hour or more the temptation is to crank and crank till motor starts.-----Results in many damaged starter motors.

    You can find the electric primer on Johnson / Evinrude from about 1980 to 2005 models.----Used on motors from 9.9 to 300 HP.----Yes the unit is that simple and very good and reliable.----Most boat shops would have some kicking around !

    The primer bulb is nothing but a manual pump.-----Moves fuel in the direction of the arrow on the bulb.-----Should work doing what you did.

    Check the shift interrupt switch.-----It is located on the engine block.----Stops spark to 3 cylinders during shifting.

    I refurbished a 63 model 10 HP a few years ago for the 8 year old grandson.-----A wonderful smooth running motor.-----He could start it by himself when motor was warmed up.---Time to look for a used flywheel.-----your location ?

    Nope.-----I do not believe the cam is the issue.----Position of the flywheel is determined by the TAPERS on flywheel and crankshaft.-----Check assembly / position of magplate and retainer plate !
