    Simple----Put shift lever in neutral.------Rotate magneto plate till it hits the interlock bar.-----Find this on the starboard side of the block.-----That is your start position.

    Your motor needs certain things to run correctly.----It has 2 ignition systems ( one for each cylinder )-----It needs fuel and not too much fuel.----Spark at the right time.----Compression in the cylinder.-----Compression in the crankcase.----Correct propeller fitted to match the type boat you have.

    Oh well----Most folks start on these motors by cleaning the carburetor.----So give that a try.-----If that does not get the results you are hoping for then take a stab at something else.---I think there are many tutorial videos on u-tube that cover this popular series of motors.--------Sorry.

    you need an outboard tachometer that runs off the alternator.------Some control boxes are prewired where you plug in the tachometer.-----some have a gray wire and purple for power and a black ground.

    Did you find the high speed jets ( orifice plugs ) 3 of them.----You find it in the carburetor bowl way in behind the drain plug.----Water pump impeller changed ?----Compression test results need to be posted.

    Picture #2 shows an oil pressure shift assisted lower unit.----It goes into FORWARD with a DOWN motion of the shift rod.-----Your motor likely shifts to forward with an UP motion of the shift rod.-----You are right they all look the same to a novice.----But they are not all the same !!------And...

    I would install an electric primer valve from a Johnson or Evinrude.----Does the same thing as your spray bomb without all the work.-----Push the key in and motor will be running !!

    As I recall the pulley just slides off once you undo the nut.----With the magneto on your work bench the coil comes out fairly easily.

    A very good motor , worked on lots of them.----I can not see , feel or hear your motor.-----So post your compression test values.-----And does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or better on a test device, yes or no ?-----Sounds to me that it might be running on 1 cylinder.-----Have you had the flywheel...
