    Once again some folks here will tell you that this ---" foamy looking " ---goop is normal for this motor.------What you are looking at is technology from 70 years ago.----I see a nice " expensive to own " 4 stroke outboard in your future.

    It starts fine and idles fine you say.-----It revs up fine in neutral you say.----They all rev up fine in neutral !!----What size / year is this motor ??----And it is up to you do do some trouble shooting / per post #2----Post compression numbers and check spark on all leads !!

    Sounds like rubbing compound is what is used.------But if scratches are deep you could make it worse as far as cosmetic appearance.-----On a " new to you boat " likely there are other thing to worry about.------Inspect transom / stringers / motor.------Leave the cosmetics till last.

    Those pumps are quite simple.------A new impeller and 99 out of 100 will pump just fine.

    Agreed---Switchbox is similar to a light bulb.------They work , work , work until one day they go----PHOOOFF ----and don't work anymore.----If your mechanic can tell it is failing he has options for a better paying career.

    CO makes it a 1985 model-------A SEADRIVE .------An outboard with a special hydraulic bracket system.--Easy to find the part # if the powerhead is original with the 35 AMP stator.------Where are you looking ?-----Who said it is a 200 HP.--------Look for and ask your friendly dealer for some help !
