The CSM that is stitched needs the styrene to break down the binders. It's not the stitching, it's what is stitched to the 1700 to make it 1708.... The CSM
Cables manufactured just 10 years ago will require a bit of fitment much less a 50 year old boat. You may need a new helm to go with the cable
Get a complete kit.

You wouldnt feel it, because the advance kicks in sooner than a mechanical advance. for example, on the 3.0 4-banger, you set timing at -2 with the shunt. however at idle, you will see the unit at about 10 degrees BTDC.
