    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

One thing about working with SS bolts is 'galling' , which can ruin your day. I had the issue with my extended swim platform build, so I'll have to be extra careful about the extension pod, considering the number of bolts.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

According to AI . . . "Coarse thread is more subject to loosening under vibration, while fine thread is less likely to loosen. This is because fine threads have a smaller helix angle, which makes them more resistant to self-loosening from vibration compared to the steeper angle of coarse threads."

Transom assembly is fine thread, outdrive to bell housing is fine thread. Must be a reason.

Fender washers and regular washers with nylock nuts. I figure fine thread is better for both tightening and not loosening

Ribs, gussets, and bolts. . . . While away, I did some detailed drawings of the extension pod and support structure. Yellow is the boat's structure and gray is the extension pod and support structure. . . I am going to add a bunch of gussets to support many of the flange areas where...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Speaking of resin . . . I tend to keep the resin cool and add heat once the glass is wet-out. IIRC, while doing some glassing during summer heat, I put the resin jug in the refrigerator over night to delay the hardening. On my swim platform build, I used a 'slow' hardener "Norox MCP-75"...

I fillet-ed most of the day . . . I got the ones done that can be done. There will be some more when I put the remaining pieces on. I'm going to be traveling for the next 10 days or so. I might get a little bit done tomorrow AM, but that's about it for a while. I'll be glassing after...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I'm waiting for some Cabosil to arrive . . . Meanwhile I got a supply of frosting bags from the Admiral's stash. In other news, I got the transom pretty much cleaned off. . I'm going to mark the cut-outs in the transom from tracing the openings in the extension pod (going to put the extension...

Who wouldda thunk, resin PB as a desert topping :ROFLMAO: Anyway . . . I have been doing the really boring stuff . . . rounding corners, sanding, etc. Fillets come next. I assume that with the PB and frosting bag, I should mix it in small batches, as it will tend to harden-up as I go. My...

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

Your engine probably can hold upwards of 5 gallons of liquid in the cooling system. If you drain the system and want to fill it with AF, it is best to fill it manually via the thermostat housing and the hoses to the exhaust manifolds.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Back on topic . . . I've been toying with the idea of web holes in the 3 girder-like stringers in the extension pod. This is what I came up with . . . . . There is the one 'center stringer' and two 'engine aligned' stringers (one either side of the center stringer). Since these stringers are...

Imma sand with 100 grit once I get the paint off. There is also an epoxy barrier coat that I can see under the paint.
