    Barrel test with water deep enough to submerge waterpump. Muffs are not a realistic waterpump/cooling system function test. Hopefully it cools normally. If it still overheats, pull heads and check water passage deflectors #12.. supposedly 4 per engine/one per cylinder.

    Check for float valve seating (blow into inlet with carb inverted..no air should pass). Missing nozzle gasket will also cause your issue. #36

    Leaking 1972 25hp Johnson lower unit oil drain plug

    Try a thicker o-ring that will squish against the sides of the drain port when tightened down. Pressure test before filling.. rubber hose and mouth pressure and soapy water will suffice. If it seals, remove plug and fill normally.

    I used auto wires (resistive type) once way back when, before I knew better. Ran great for about 10 minutes😎. These magnetos require metal strand plug wires.
