    Did you line up the key on the rotor with notch in the crank?-----It sounds like you need another rotor.------Sent a couple of these motors to scrap a week ago.

    Have a 79 model with same issue here.------Took engine apart.---May cut / grind the crank to save the shaft.-----The splines should be greased about every 5 years or so.

    make an adapter to clamp on the shaft.-----Pull it out with a slide hammer.

    Short shaft is 15".----Water must be above the impeller when trolling.

    Some of the older 4 hp do have a charge coil.-----But the impeller is highly suspect.

    ???---FACT FOR YOU---Power tilt was available as an option for V-4 beginning in about 1962.
