Alpha One Gen II loosing oil

I get it, you have a very small leak. If there's no oil in the bellows it must be leaking into the water, look for a floating oil sheen on a calm day. Unless the reservoir or connection to it is leaking. Are you sure both your screw plugs have decent O ring gaskets on them? Have you removed...

Alpha One Gen II loosing oil

Still not sure I understand the "stays forever" thing. You mean the oil level drops to minimum and then stays there even as you put more hours on the outdrive? If that's the case then you're just pushing out some air bubbles--no problem, refill and go boating! Mine does this every year; I...

    not shifting into forward gear

Yes, a 2 X 10 is (sort of) measured in inches. It's actually smaller than that because I think the size is based on the size of the rough piece of lumber before it is planed. At any rate, it would measure 3.8cm by 23.5cm by whatever length happened to be floating around. It could certainly do...

    Trouble reinstalling pre-alpha drive

See my previous post. You have to turn the prop counter-clockwise while locked in forward to get the u joints to turn. It may take a bit of force to get it to turn because you're also spinning the water pickup pump.

    Trouble reinstalling pre-alpha drive

I agree. I had a drive like that on a 1969 boat and the O rings were the last thing to engage--along with the shift boot. I used to put a bit of grease on the O rings and the shift boot; the boot was old and a bit floppy and tended to jamb up. A good swift kick was usually necessary to engage...

    Trouble reinstalling pre-alpha drive

It's probably the splines not matching. Your prop should be locked in a counter-clockwise position; I like to use a bungee wrapped around the prop and hooked to the outdrive. You or a helper can then rotate the prop counter-clockwise slightly which will rotate the spline till it goes in.

Can I Add a Trim Position Guage?

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll be getting into this when I get back up North.

Can I Add a Trim Position Guage?

So if I open up the cap where the sender goes I should see the brown/white wire in there? This seems too easy to be true!

Can I Add a Trim Position Guage?

I can't get at the boat 'till mid April. The boat never had a trim indicator, just wondering if the wiring might be part of a standard wiring harness that goes into all Mercruisers. Guess I'll have to open up the port thingy where it would go and see what's in there!

    Milky madness

An old school 150W light bulb in the bilge can help keep you safe for those nights that take you by surprise.

Can I Add a Trim Position Guage?

My boat came with a trim limit switch which works well but I have no trim position indicator. Can I add one? Are the wires already there or do I have to tear the out-drive apart?

    Milky madness

This may have blown some water out of the exhaust manifolds but would have done little to remove water from your block. There's also a good chance you've cooked your lower unit water pump impeller by running it dry.

    No Start, but should

Are you sure your lanyard safety switch is hooked up and functioning properly? My boat will try to start as long as the key is in the "start" position, then immediately die upon the key's release if the switch is flipped.

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI 2013. Crank but no start.

I was going to suggest putting a jumper between the battery positive and your coil--that would have put you on the right track because it would have run perfectly. I keep a jumper wire tucked away in my engine compartment just to get me home in case one of the many items between the dash and...

    Snow Birds: Beware!

I bought a Honeywell WiFi thermostat for that exact same reason and I absolutely love it. I ran a new cable with enough wires for the "C" and also to take advantage of the two stage capabilities of the furnace.

What to do about this boat?

Perhaps, after you threaten him with court, you can get him to sign the boat over to you for the $2000 you've already paid. You were willing to pay $7000--the other $5000 will go a long way toward replacing your engines and you'll have a really dependable boat when you're done. This, of...

No spark plug spark... 170 MC , 1985 Sea Ray

Now the colors make sense! If the Pur/Yel wire looks good between the coil positive and the slave solenoid, then run a jumper between those two points just to make sure there's not a bad spot somewhere you can't see. If the engine still won't start there must be something wrong with the...

No spark plug spark... 170 MC , 1985 Sea Ray

It's hard to say for sure, but if we compare this picture with Glenn's, it appears that his "R" terminal is empty. I don't even see a hex nut on there that would have held a ring terminal.

No spark plug spark... 170 MC , 1985 Sea Ray

Multiple issues! Can you find the "R" terminal on your starter--I think it will be marked as such right on the plastic on the starter. If so, just run a jumper from the "R" terminal to the plus terminal of the coil and see what happens. (Without the previous jumper from the battery.)
