Oh that’s awesome! Thanks for sharing that. Ok, I kinda thot that’s how it worked, so any typical valve issues don’t apply here. I guess that kinda helps narrow it down some. Spark jump 3/8” gap?? How do I set that up? I only see spark on the surface gap plugs.

There is a small tab bolted to block with a line, and the sticker on the flywheel. I think it says 32* maybe a couple lines and TDC. I’ll double check and send pic. Ok I’ll find small piece of wire to run thru it. These carbs look very clean. Nothing seems dirty, plugged and the floats are...

The sticker on the flywheel says 32* and TDC. how do I know where 28*-30* is? Is it so many teeth back/forward? I have the carbs completely apart, what is the thin brass tube running vertically thru middle of carbs? How do I remove or clean that piece? So far everything looks very clean. I’ll...

Hi Nordin, Yes magnapower ignition. New L20v surface gap plugs. I checked TDC with top cyl and flywheel and distributor marks line up. BUT I haven’t set it to 28-30* yet. That stuff makes me nervous, but I’ll try it. Air/fuel screws started at 1.5 and went down to 3/4 but moved back up to...

Hello again all, Took the boat out again to try and figure out this “rich bog” issue. Compression test with plugs out is 120-130 on all 3 cylinders. I have spark at all 3 grounded plugs, carbs are synced, timing looks right but not sure about distributor or what the top screw does. Starts up...

Afternoon everybody, Last left off I was waiting for gaskets. I installed the gaskets and the fuel pump rebuild kit. I read Frank’s link & sync about a dozen times and I believe I have things Close. Just need to get it on the water for the last section. Here’s my confusion……. When I roll the...

Very cool, thanks for the info. Hopefully after this stuff is completed it will run decent.

Ok. What about the one from the fuel pump to the block (2nd pic)? Wht does that one do? Should I have clamps on these hoses, since they are not under pressure?

Hello TopGun! I was under the impression these black 1/4” hoses ran of vacuum from the crankcase, there’s one from the fuel pump to the block, one from the dog bone to the top of carbs, and there’s one from air horn to behind bottom carb…. This one I’m confused about, and what it does.

Hey guys, Lil update….. been awhile but pulled the dog bone and found the screens were plugged up with carbon and fine metal shavings. Cleaned everything up just waiting on gaskets to put back together. Took fuel pump apart, didn’t see anything, waiting on diaphragm and gaskets to put back...

Surprised me the compression is that good being 45 year old outboard. I don’t remember it being that high when I first checked it. NO I’m not sure at all if top cyl is running lean or not. Just using flashlight and moving it in/out you can see it’s not as good a shape as the other two. it’s...

I went thru the carbs a year or so ago, as it’s been in my garage being slowly worked on. I’ll go thru them all again completely and see if anything comes up. So you think top carb was/is causing lean conditions? ……..that sucks. Thanks Nordin, I’ll dive into that and see where it takes me.

Ok, so after some rest and cleared my head, grounded out the plugs and turned the motor over. YUP IT TURNS CLOCKWISE (thanks topgun). All 3 plugs are sparking. I’m assuming that side of things is ok for now. Looking into the plug hole at the pistons, I see the top piston is dry/brown and looks...

For real?? It spins clockwise? I was going off how the starter cog goes up to spin the flywheel. ok so distributor is good, CDI box is good, coil is good, I need to look at the stickers on flywheel to confirm timing is good…. Geeeez been along day, I think I’m starting to get lost in it all...

Yes that info is correct. The preamp is red in colour. I’ve read that I can’t test the unit and it’s a replace to fix it. Before I buy one I would like to rule out any other possibilities. What has me stumped, because I don’t know, is the spark not making it to all three plugs…..UNLESS I ground...

    Chrysler 75hp, need direction.

Yes only the top plug fires at top dead center. The other two plugs DO NOT fire when turning flywheel by hand. I can only get all three plugs to fire if I pull the black/white wire and ground it as I turn flywheel by hand. The popping inside distributor is normal, but it’s not making its way to...

Alright, so I’m in the midst of starting at the beginning. I checked the timing, seems right. I pulled the plugs and grounded them, key on, and at TDC the top plug sparks. When I turn the flywheel slowly I can hear a few pops inside distributor as it turns. Only the top plug will fire at TDC...

The old tank has been cleaned, fresh fuel, fresh fuel line and primer. It starts up perfect every time. New plugs and wires, compression test done last fall but I forget the actual numbers. The way it acts under load makes me think it’s a spark issue and not a fuel issue. But what baffles me is...
