    Chrysler 75hp, need direction.

Hello everyone, long story short I had my boat out the other day for first rip in a long time. Need advice on where to start……low idle it would move along ok, from approximately 20%-90% it would “struggle”, not sure how to properly word it. More like it would load up but not go or take off, At...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

https://forums.iboats.com/threads/1978-chrysler-valiant-14-foot-runabout-repairs.420593/ Found this thread, he has the exact same boat but in green. As you can see on second page he has no bulkheads either, you can see the notched out stringers for ply to run across the tops. Is this really...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Well this raises a warning flag ……. Looking into the stringers of my boat right now, I have NO BULKHEADS. There is only a few strips of plywood (1/2”) tied into the tops of the stringers to hold ‘em together. Not like the typical designs you see on other boats. No I’m really confused.

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Yes I agree, it’s amazing to have so much experience and knowledge on tap. If I were to put in a stowage locker, would I lose any structural support? Be nice to put oars and other lengthy items under there.

This is the closest quick pics I could find. You get the idea. Not seeing ski lockers or tow bars. Boat is not very big. 14’ long 65” wide.

Thank you! I appreciate the positive feedback. I know it’s annoying to teach the greenhand.

That would be pretty sweet to have that kind of stowage. But any old Chrysler boats I’ve seen, not many, in this model has a closed floor.

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Honestly I’m not sure if there was an option for a tank in these boats. I’m also not sure if it’s been rehabbed. I don’t think so, but it’s possible. All my wiring runs under cap on right side. There are tubes glassed in , looks factory? I think this is a basic design, Should I put foam in...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Hey K, So the Center channel is wide open with no foam from bow to bilge. Is there supposed to be foam in here or is this on purpose? At the front tow ring is where a channel/access starts and runs the full length. I’m not understanding this design as the bow is capped. Is it incase a hole...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

I watched his videos, I know how he did it. I also watched other peoples videos where they poured into open stringers. I’m curious to which is the better way, or does it matter?

What’s best way to install pour foam, into open area or pour thru the holes?

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

I noticed I don’t have any (bulkheads?) 3/4” stringers running left/right only front/back. Is this how they designed it? Or should I be adding some in? Just incase no one noticed, I’ve seen a couple rehabs where this was built. 🤷🏻‍♂

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Questions……….looking at the stringers in my hull, is that enough support or should I add more/ different setup? I’m a bit concerned as the “sides” going up to the cap seem quite thin. It was mentioned that the sides in these old boats didn’t have much for support. Any truth to this or do I need...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Ok, so 3-4 holes across the bottom 1” up, but that won’t tell me how far up the transom or how bad? Are there “degrees” of rot? As in levels of breakdown. Or is it only YES vs NO? Reason I ask is with all the articles and videos I’ve seen lately, quite a few boats seemed worse off than mine but...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Alright give me the quick and dirty……To check my transom by drilling small pilot holes, how far apart do I drill? Say my transom is 5’ W x 2.5’ H. Do I drill in a grid? 1/2” deep? I’m sure it’s damp.

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

I have also had my eyes opened to the boat world. Being my first boat/project it’s a lot to take in but learning lots, and learning what to look for on the next boat. This old boat I hope to get out fishing for a few seasons and enjoy the water. It’s not a “nice” boat like everyone has on here...

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Hi Scott, I’m definitely not that lucky, the rear section of stringer is indeed wet but not crumbling, and I believe it will be ok. I will drill a few test holes on days off to see how bad it is. The transom…….I haven't even gotten that far yet.

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Yeah only the floor, Stringers are good, add foam and new floor, fibreglass edges up the sides and coat it all with dock paint or some rubber non slip stuff.

    1978 Chrysler floor help?

Will do! Thanks. I think if I bought a boat like his and found that much work, it would be extremely overwhelming. My “simple” floor repair is enough for me. I like the learning but the big picture is staggering.
