    1968 3hp Johnson

I ran this in a bucket, and it started exceptionally easy, idled down really low and seemed to work well enough. It seemed to me to lack the same high speed RPM as my other 68 3hp Evinrude, but I'd have to have them side by side to compare. I might try to run this one a bit on a boat, and...

    1973 4hp Evinrude

I ran this in a bucket. It is hard to start even after running for a bit, just not right. Would not idle down very well, would stall. I found the fuel pump dripping a little gas, and I think whomever put the fuel pump in stripped the threads, or at least one of them, that attaches the fuel...

    Duranautic DN-14 Transom

I looked up some other Duramatic boats of the same size and they have their transoms like that, odd to me anyway, with the vertical board. Guy said he thought it was a 20 inch transom, so - I'm not going to drive an hour to measure it for the guy if he is wrong I don't think. Funny, how many...

    Duranautic DN-14 Transom

in my search for a used 14 foot aluminum boat. I ran into on that is a brand I never heard of before. The transom on it looks odd to me, but I searched and found others with that same vertical board. I think this is just weird enough for me to not take a chance on an old boat that has...

    1973 4hp Evinrude

I did bend that bracket in a vice a bit. The hood latch is still stiff, but if you press down on the back of the hood, it snaps in fine now. Pulled the recoil from a parts motor and put it on this Evinrude, and a not cracked starter handle to go with it. I might switch the throttle arm over...

    1973 4hp Evinrude

excellent. I was bummed when I thought it was a weird shaft length, but it is a short. Weird paint job on the thing, looks like the color on some of the Johnson's I've seen. The compression on this one is 95/100, so far as I can tell that is a healthy little motor. Bright blue spark. Few...

    1973 4hp Evinrude

I'm not sure on the extension. I'd certainly prefer if it were for a 15" transom, but the cavitation plate is 2 or 3" lower than what I'd expect to see in a common sort shaft like the one on the right. oh, no wait, maybe I'm just looking at it wrong. I'll have to get a chance to measure it...

    1973 4hp Evinrude

I picked this up and went over it a bit. The hood latch seems really hard to close. You can see it pucker the hood when it grabs the latch, and then when it snaps closed you can see the hood pop back out a bit. I pullet the little latch arm off another one, parts motor a 71 4hp Johnson, and...

    1968 3hp Johnson

I'm not 100% sure. It is likely the guy had the 3 hood on the 4 and this is the one that ran strong. I looked at the mechanism on the other ones and one of them does the same thing, but not as obviously, you have to watch it closer. As you close the throttle, you can see the rotation of the...

    1968 3hp Johnson

I was going over this to see about putting it in the water and trying to run it around for 15 minutes or so. New lower unit oil, what was in there seemed real thin, but not milky. Looked over the controls, swapped the broken choke lever out for a good one off a parts motor. I pulled the plugs...

picked up some little 60s/70s Johnson/Evinrude 3 and 4hp short shafts

yea, the shaft is 2-3 inches taller. I measured it, and now looking at it you can clearly see the cavitation plate is a good bit lower in reference to the lower edge of the side of the trailer they're hung on the same way.

picked up some little 60s/70s Johnson/Evinrude 3 and 4hp short shafts

well, I think this 68 Johnson 3hp is good enough to run the water for 15 minutes or so and see how it does on a boat. These 2, the one on the left (73 4hp) seems OK enough to consider running. I gotta measure the shaft lenght. Seems like it might not be a short shaft 15" to me, but I didn't...

picked up some little 60s/70s Johnson/Evinrude 3 and 4hp short shafts

Jh23M, JH-23 1968 3hp Johnson 4W71D, 4w71 1971 4hp Johnson 4336c, 4336 4hp 1973 Evinrude I think the 3 horse is good for a water test. I changed the lower gear oil in it, and took the choke control knob from the other one, it was broken and jerry rigged, not a bad job, but I think that motor...

picked up some little 60s/70s Johnson/Evinrude 3 and 4hp short shafts

71 4hp Johnson had what looked like almost fourescent milky yellow gear oil in the LU. Pulled prop, just drained it and put screws back in until I figure out next step. 68 3hp Johnson, not milky, but very thin gear oil, drained it and filled with new. 73 Evinrude 4hp, no idea how to change...

picked up some little 60s/70s Johnson/Evinrude 3 and 4hp short shafts

I do think this is the correct models and years. 90, 94 compression on the 68 3hp Johnson 93, 93 compression on the 71 4hp Johnson 90, 94 compression on the 74 4hp Evinrude Which seem decent enough. I bought them all running. I think I'll check/swap the lower unit gear oil, and see about...

picked up some little 60s/70s Johnson/Evinrude 3 and 4hp short shafts

I have what I think is a factory service manual for a 1968 Evinrude 3hp. Wonder if that covers enough to maintain all these. Anyone know if these all share parts, ignition, coils, carbs. are the 4s that much different than the 3s? I looked up the stamped model numbers, and came up pretty...

picked up some little 60s/70s Johnson/Evinrude 3 and 4hp short shafts

picked up two 4hp and a 3hp, the ones on each end are the 4hp, trying to go over and really figure out what I got. I have a 1968 3hp Evinrude, so - my theory was these would be similar enough to maintain. didn't find a model number on the one on the right yet left to right Jh23M 4W71D 4336c...

    ad boat identification

is this an old tracker guide 14 foot? https://nh.craigslist.org/boa/d/rochester-14-guide-aluminum-boat-with/7756921270.html I asked the guy, but he responded Guide-14 and as far as I can tell either that's an old brand or an older Tracker. Anyone in the knowledgbase recognize it? He said it...

    2003 60hp 4 Stroke EFI Relays

as an aside, same boat and motor, not to start another thread. this is a 60hp four stroke mercury on a 16 foot Lund. It will plane, but it has always been a bear. My brother put a prop on it, but honestly, it is worse than before. With just me, will get on plane, 2 people, barely, 2 people...
