    Cleaning water passages Evinrude E150EXERV

I don't think it's too likely that I've had the incorrect heads installed on this motor before I bought it with 153 hours on it. I can go back and check the part numbers but I'd be willing to bet those heads fit on any V6 carbeurated Evinrude. Whatever the case, they've worked fine until what...

    Cleaning water passages Evinrude E150EXERV

Maybe I didn't explain it right. The block has a water passage that the head does not. What I've highlighted is corrosion on the surface of the head where the passage in the head dead-ends into the head. No amount of flushing will change that, I was just wondering why that is.

Broken head bolt. Evinrude 150 E150EXERV.

Well I spoke to the local boat yard and they seemed to think torching an aluminum block will damage it. Other guys on various forums all say otherwise. I also asked a mobile outboard mechanic who was onsite and he said heat and try to grip it with vice grips. I'm taking it to the local...

    Cleaning water passages Evinrude E150EXERV

Once I removed the head I found most of the smaller passages plugged with salt. Problem is, the block has more passages than the head does. Where the two meet you can see a salt/corrosion mark on the head. Why is this? Perhaps this head fits a few different blocks or vice versa? Anyhow the...

Broken head bolt. Evinrude 150 E150EXERV.

Removed the heads to unclog the passages and I broke a bolt. What are my options here?

Air leak in fuel pump? Evinrude '94 E150EXERV

I did inspect it, found nothing wrong but put in new diaphrams anyway. During the first few hours one of them tore. Put the original back in, same thing. Rather than take it apart again and take my chances I just bought a new one. I took it apart just now and it looked perfectly fine. Now...

Air leak in fuel pump? Evinrude '94 E150EXERV

Installed new fuel pump, now she runs fine. Here's the lesson: even though rebuild kits are available, just buy the new pump. The rebuilt one failed pretty much right away. Either I did it wrong or it wasn't designed to be rebuilt. I have a few bubbles going by at idle still but once you go...

Air leak in fuel pump? Evinrude '94 E150EXERV

Thanks. I'm putting in a new fuel pump this afternoon. I know conceptually what and where the vapor separator is, but what is the vapor pump? The VS just vents fuel vapor back into the intake from what I understand, and has a float in it? I guess that will come apart if the new fuel pump...

Air leak in fuel pump? Evinrude '94 E150EXERV

Currently motor runs fine at idle and runs fine on a plane for about 20 seconds then she just loses power as if there is not enough fuel. Removed the water pump (newly rebuilt) and found a broken diaphram, so I put the old one (not torn) back in. Still same problem, so I installed a clear hose...

1999 Johnson 150 Ocean Pro Cooling Question

I hear you about the all different places thing. The sensor pockets are almost an inch deep into the cylinder head and therefore closer to the combustion. Actually it's between two cylinders. Either way, it reads the same on both sides, higher in the pocket than the outside of the block /...

1999 Johnson 150 Ocean Pro Cooling Question

I seem to rember that the socket you need is something like 13/16 or something odd. I had to buy one special because it's slightly bigger than my biggest socket, 18mm or 3/4. The first time I opened mine I needed a cheater bar, and from then on I just spray some lubricant on the threads. Be...

    Evinrude '94 150hp E150EXERV overheating

Thanks, I'm in the process of doing just that (re-building water pump) and I'm also going to do an acid flush while the lower unit is off. But does anybody know how I can tell the proper place to read temperature? While the horn prevents damage in the short term, I'd imagine running just below...

    Evinrude '94 150hp E150EXERV overheating

Hello, hopefully I can get a few questions answered re: the cooling system on my Evinrude. I've been getting overheat alarms. I replaced the thermostats (both bad) and the port and starboard overheat sensors (both bad). My SELOC manual says to take temperature readings with a heat crayon or...
