    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Tried to check out the link for pressure testing outdrives and for impeller install in the miscellaneous mercruiser info page and links take you to unrelated posts. Anyway someone could update those to point the right place I would greatly appreciate it. I know you guys get tired of us asking...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Also, trying to find torque specs and having no luck with that either. One place says 35. Looks like there was an argument on here 20 years ago about torque specs and bolt coatings. My old bolts definitely had red locktite on them...but was that factory?? Also, threads don't feel great on the...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Parts started coming in. New coupler is a little different that the one I took out. Modification to the original design? All pictures of associated part number i find online are like my new one.

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

I found the link on pressure testing outdrives. I'll look into it more when I get home. What I can't seem to find is something that should be incredibly simple, but google is really full of bad answers and I'd rather asked the experts (even at the risk of showing my ignorance). What grease(s)...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

It could be this simple. Thanks for pointing that out. I made several mistakes with this when I bought it. At least three of them involved not checking fluids...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

I'm not afraid to try...but some mistakes are pretty costly lessons that I'm trying to avoid. I really appreciate all you guys being willing to take the time to talk to us newbies and help us avoid some of the major land mines. I can't say I'm experienced with these and I certainly don't claim...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

The bellow wasn't full of oil. Felt/looked like some grease. Maybe I should order a rebuild kit for this thing? I'm scared to ask what all that entails...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

So...haven't checked the manuals yet, but I'm assuming I should have some oil in here...but how much? Little bit on the floor came out when I pulled the lowere.

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Glad I decided to do the impeller while I was tearing into everything. Learned how to be stupid and forget the back nut on the lower unit for a while before I finally realized why it wouldn't separate from the upper.

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Motor coupler was pretty slick in there...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Got it. Thank you! I'm trying to find the part number for item #21 from the previous page. I got the shutter, but I can't seem to find the part number for the gasket between my exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe.

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Trying to find the part number for #21 in the drawing (gasket for where my exhaust pipe bolts on). Removed it to make pulling the motor easier and old one split (probably would want to replace anyway). Not finding the part number...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

So order a new one and get it in when I put the motor back in. Thank you. Ordering now. Can you explain how the backwask happens. Sorry if that's a stupid question. I'm just not seeing how that would happen without the motor essentially being under water since my exhaust pipe sticks up above the...

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Got it. So, is it really necessary or was this an 'over-engineering' thing? Had anyone ever seen the need for it in a real situation?

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Still new to I/O...can you explain a little more?

    Mercruiser 3.0 won't "lock in"

Finally got caught up to a point I could back the pontoon up to the shop. Pulled the outdrive without and issues. Here are some pictures. Waiting on the parts to show up this week. Motor coupler obviously destroyed. Can anyone tell me what the plate is in my hand? It obviously goes somewhere...

Boat had been stored for 19 years

Seating/upholstery work looks great! Plenty sufficient for what I would want to do with this thing if it proves to be worth restoring.
