    Pitting was way deeper than i thought, i should have built the primer up alot more. Will do more coats of paint till it fills in or buy an aftermarket timing cover off ebay for 50 bucks, oem timing cover average price is almost 300! :eek:

    I was ready to install the crankshaft and main seal and got stuck... i know to apply rtv to the shaded areas but where do i apply the perfect seal? cylinder block seal area? is that under the seal? also do i put rtv on the ends of the main seals where the bottoms meet the tops?     After a lot of consideration I dont think im gonna remove the camshaft, head or timing gears. The camshaft lobes do show some wear but i dont think its enough to cause any bad lifters. There is no knocking or ticking. I hope you guys can tell me what you think about the camshaft lobes...

    Thanks Dan for the crankshaft cleaning tips! I think it came out nice After this pic i sprayed it down with wd40 and put it in a plastic bag for safe keeping until i'm ready to install it.

    Still not perfect after polishing but I think its good enough, only way to get it better is to have the crank turned.... what do you guys think?

    The GM numbers on the bearings are almost useless... i cant find a way to cross reference anything Crankshaft main bearing engraved numbers: 308D(maybe G) & GM4 57591 Crankshaft rod bearing engraved numbers: 17C631 & GM4 5453695

    now that most of the bearings are off the crankshaft i can take some pics so you can see it, i only have one pic but will add the rest later.. so here is where im stumped... There are four possible bearings, STD (standard) .001 .010 .020 my question is, how do i know what size crankshaft...
