    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

So I did a little bit of everything that everyone recommended and sprayed water through the thermostat and up the copper tubing after replacing the grommets and stuffing it back into the exhaust tube first. It seemed to not flow well to begin with, but eventually did. Was it plugged?? Maybe...

    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

I'm going to try to find that grommet online and order it either way due to the water supply issue and since it won't cost much. I plan to get the one replaced that goes into the impeller cup and has the brass tube glued in as well (replace one, just as well replace the other). So what's the...

1967 Johnson 6hp won’t idle or stay running

Is there a high and low speed adjustments on that old of a motor on the carburetor? Does it sneeze and cough before dying? I'd muck with that first to see if it will idle with some adjusting. Turn the needle valve in all the way but not too hard when it bottoms out and then back it out a turn...

    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

There was a tip of one of the fins missing on the old impeller, but it was located right inside the impeller cup. I found this motor at a yard sale of sorts. It was sitting with the lower end removed. He said the shaft was bent so I was buying it for spare parts while looking for another 25...

    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

I wasn't looking forward to removing the power head or a bunch of other stuff to do the grommet, but I will since it runs good and so far appears to be worth it to put some time and effort into it......if the grommet has collapsed or whatever causing the overheating issues. I truely appreciate...

    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

There's no other place for the tube to go due to it's length and placement into the exhaust housing (it would have to bend significantly or bust to go somewhere else and the motor IS pumping water out of the exhaust telltale hole) So everyone is saying that the grommet in the exhaust isn't...

    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

It's pumping water so the impeller key is intact and working. It's just not making it up into the powerhead.

    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

It stayed in the pump. The brass tube I believe is likely glued/permatexed into the impeller housing. How would one put a new grommet in the exhaust housing? Maybe it's not sealing well? The brass tube has no where else to go, so I know it's going into the grommet on the exhaust housing end.

    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

I've got it in a 55 gallon drum all the way up to the exhaust hole where the water exits (don't know the terminology). There's quite a bit of water gushing out of the hole, but there's a little bit of nothing getting up to the thermostat. She's running way warm........ like freakin hot. Cant...

    1975 25hp Evinrude Overheating

I got rid of my old set up and acquired a 25hp 1975 Evinrude. I put in a new impeller and fired it up. It runs great. Lots of water coming out of the exhaust tube. It seemed like it was getting hot so I pulled the thermostat plate and pulled the thermostat out and fired it up. Just a tiny...

    79 25 Johnson hydrolocking

Back to my 1979 25 hp Johnson. float is all screwed up and I can’t get it to keep from flooding the engine. It even goes to the point of hydro locking the motor (can’t pull the recoil starter) Pull the plugs and give it a pull and gas blows out big time. Anyone heard of this??? I find it...

    Top Cylinder Not Firing

My 1977 Johnson 25 hp was running great WOT and then shut down to idle with the throttle wide open. It wouldn't start after that. Upon closer inspection and trouble shooting, I've got no spark on the upper cylinder. Is it the coil or could it be something else?

    New to Downriggers

I started using downriggers on my boat last week. I've fished with them on other boats but have never had the experience like I'm having with my own. I was dragging fish around with no clue that they were even on my line. When I pulled the pole out of the release, it was apparent that I had a...

    1977 25hp Johnson Sneezing

I set up the idle jet on my 77 Johnson 25 hp and it idles like a champ. I ram it wide open for a bit and tried to come back down to idle and it sneezes and backfires for quite a while before it settles back down to idle. The last time I took it out it didn't seem to want to idle real well...

1988 Johnson 8 hp Help! Seized?

I've got a 1988 8hp that I just bought from my uncle for $150. The throttle can go from idle to full throttle in gear, reverse or neutral. It seems, I would think, that this may be my problem, safety limitations that I cant seem to find or correct that limits it from starting in gear and/or at...

    Shear Pin Stuck in Shaft??????

Ever heard of this before??????? Yea, 1966 18 hp Evinrude and I hit something that was floating just underneath the water. Sheared the pin. Took off the prop and the shear pin is stuck in the shaft. It sheared perfectly against the shaft and there is nothing left of it other than what's in...

    Replaceing the pull rope 9.9

I started putting it back together and the pinion spins clockwise turning the power head counter clockwise. Have I gone brain dead or am I missing something?

    5 hp Johnson starter problems

Maybe I've gone brain dead. I put on the recoil starter and got looking at it. The only way the pinion will engage the power head is clockwise and it turns the head counter clockwise. Am I missing something?

    7.5 Gamefisher Shaft Busted??

I replaced the impeller to cool down the exhaust tube and put it back together. Now the powerhead won't turn the shaft. I took it back out and can run the prop by hand and can feel the resistance of the new impeller. I put it back up in the power head and nothing happens shifing from neutral...

7 hp Chrysler clockwise or counterclockwise

I just inherited what I believe is a 1969 7 hp Chrysler. I've cleaned up the carb, replaced fuel lines, etc. The recoil starter was fouled up when I got it. Pulling the cord, it appears to want to turn the power head counter clockwise to start it. Is this correct???? Doesn't seem right to...
