    Starter extension/stand-off nut and bolt

Thanks for the help, I did end up needing that stand-off nut to make a secure connection with all 3 wires on the main lug. If anyone else needs the info it’s an M8x1.25 nut, at least on the aftermarket Sierra starter.

    Leftover parts…

Raw water pump seems to be on there ok, don’t remember there being a spacer there. The little one was definitely for one of the power steering pump brackets. Is there any chance the large spacer was used to secure the fuel pump? Look at the second pic to see what a PITA that second bolt is to...

    Leftover parts…

Yeah, so far no joy but I’ll keep at it. I think the smaller one might be for the power steering pump because it does look a little crooked now that I checked again. The larger one I’m still clueless on.

    Leftover parts…

After a 2+ year journey in rebuilding my ‘02 5.0 GL-C it’s finally back in the boat and I’m putting the finishing touches on electrical, coolant, and accessory hook ups. I’ve got just about everything tightened up and torqued down and I came across these 2 items in my parts bin. One just looks...

Fresh water cooled system radiator cap PSI

I mistakenly tossed the old cap from my fresh water cooled system and can’t seem to find a pic clear enough to read what the pressure rating was on it. I grabbed one from Autozone and just realized it’s a 20lb cap which seems really high. Does anyone know what the standard pressure is in marine...

    Starter extension/stand-off nut and bolt

Thanks for the quick reply. So any generic nut between the battery cable and the other 2 will suffice? I don’t need that fancy one in the schematic (#6 and 7 in the attached pic)?

    Starter extension/stand-off nut and bolt

As part of the rebuild of my 5.0GL-C I replaced the starter as it was pretty badly corroded. When I tried removing the wiring from the starter the entire terminal snapped off (see pic below). As you can see in the pic one of the wires was flush to the starter then secured with a generic nut and...

    Exhaust Riser Sensors?

I’m really not sure. I don’t have any gauges for exhaust temp so I assume it’s an alarm, and I think on newer fuel injected boats they will put the boat into “limp mode” if they sense an overheat.

    Exhaust Riser Sensors?

I’m in the process of rebuilding my VP 5.0GL-C and I came across these sensors and for the life of me can’t remember where they go. I took lots of pics before disassembly but the exhaust risers were already off and I’m thinking maybe they go in there? My new risers are from Barr and don’t have...

VP 5.0GL-C Head Gasket FelPro Part Number

My boat is an ‘03, and as per VP’s website the GL-C was only made from ‘02-‘03 so it must be about the same age. My intake manifold is 8 bolt so that confirms that it is a Vortec engine. The Felpro 17224 is a whole top end gasket kit so it must be the intake manifold gasket that won’t match up...

VP 5.0GL-C Head Gasket FelPro Part Number

Internet searches and the good folks at Summit Racing all seem to agree that FelPro’s Head Gasket Kit #17224 is the right part number for my 5.0GL-C, but then I just found over on Marine Engine Parts it specifically says that the 17224 kit is NOT for engines with Vortec heads and I was fairly...

Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-C Rebuild Help

Thanks for the quick replies. I’ll add the oil pump and timing cover to the list (mine is plastic), and I’ll just pull the outdrive to make things easier. Out of curiosity, why no copper spray on the head gaskets? My friend who builds high performance car engines swears by the stuff. Also, we...

Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-C Rebuild Help

TL : DR - I’m rebuilding a VP 5.0GL-C and am looking for tips/tricks/recommendations from folks who have done it before. Mostly I’m wondering what parts HAVE to be the proper “marine” versions, and which parts it’s OK to use the automotive equivalent of. Full story - I suffered a valve strike...

Volvo SX-M prop shaft seal leak

Hi everyone, big thanks to all of you who share your knowledge here, I’ve learned quite a bit from just lurking around. I’m sorry to ask a question as my first post but I’m hoping you all can help me decide what to do here. While winterizing my new to me ‘03 Blue Water Sportfisher I found water...
