Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

It’s been fresh water only. But I boat in salt water only. Price is probably 5-10k lower then similar boats with lower hours and mint interior.

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

Good point about key on hours. I can borrow a scan tool to read the computer. He doesn’t mind me doing a compression test as well

Who here would buy a boat with 1400hours on a 454 mpi?

I’m considering a boat with roughly 1400 hours. It has been well maintained and runs great. But that seems like a lot. Would a compression check tell you much on the condition of the engine? Owner says it doesn’t burn oil. It’s in a cruiser and wasn’t run hard. Any thoughts or advice?

    Transom assembly rebuild

Interesting. I did buy a kit off ebay, came with everything I needed for $150. It fit perfect and tolerances are tight. I guess time will tell

    Transom assembly rebuild

While I have this apart I was considering adding grease nipples to the upper and lower swivel pin bushings. I'm just curious if anyone else hear has done it and if it has helped. My only concern is blowing out the lower seal from adding too much grease

I assume I need an engine alignment, vibration when drive is engaged

Also check out that the rear motor mounts in the flywheel housing haven't collapsed. Just had to change mine out to get it aligned properly

    Transom assembly rebuild

I noticed on the parts fiche they were different part numbers. Comparing pictures they look identical. If I found one close to me I would take my old one to see if they match. But can only find used ones online and I’m hesitant to drop good money on something I don’t know will work for sure.

    Transom assembly rebuild

My transom housing is ate out on the very bottom and where the swivel pin seal goes. So i'm on the hunt for a new or very good condition housing. It seems the bravo housing is the same as a newer alpha gen 2 housing. Can anyone confirm this?

replaced gimbal bearing in merc alpha 1. cannot get alignment tool to engage with engine coupler at all. have tried to move bearing every way

you probably figured it out by now but if you cant get the tool to go in take a 1" bar/tube and that will go into the coupler and give you a visual of which way you need to go

    Transom assembly rebuild

Yeah I didn’t make myself clear I have the transom assembly off the hull as well and completely tore down to inspect everything. Luckily the gimbal ring is good. I didn’t have any play in the steering, only leaking from the seal due to a corroded pin

    Transom assembly rebuild

I seen the nuwave and have heard they fit good. I have removed the engine as I did not want to cut the hole in the top of the housing.

    Transom assembly rebuild

I’m in the process of rebuilding my bravo transom assembly due to a leaking swivel pin seal. I’m going to get a stainless pin, I see some cheaper kits on Amazon/ebay and just wondering if anyone has any experience using them? I have read there might be some fitment issues with the tiller arm and...

    Rusted surpentine pulleys

Just got the boat out of storage and figured I would give an update after having the pulleys painted for a year. On the inside( belt does not run on), I rust converted and used single stage rust coat paint. On the outside and rest of the pulleys I used a rust converter, a 2 part epoxy primer...

    Outdrive Alignment

I fought alignment issues for a while with my current boat. Couldn't get it with the front mounts, so I replaced the rear mounts to the new type and it still wasn't perfect. Although i could get the drive to go on with a couple kicks. Sounds like this is where most shops would call it good...
