Shift Rod alignment 1985 115 HP Evinrude

Hello, I just replaced my water pump and was getting ready to screw in the screw but I notice the shift rod shifted when I reinserted the lower unit. I did not remove the carburetor so I am using a socket extension. It started to get dark so I didn't try to rotate the shift rod. Can I bend a...

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

It has been a while since I have been able to get to the boat but I will be there this Tuesday for a work session. I plan on leveling the consoles, installing my side panels, and installing my two lounge seats. The large box store sent me three by mistake, looks like I may recoup some of my...

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

I used 5/8 inch marine plywood with two coats of epoxy for my new deck. As you can imagine, my councils don't exactly line up. I search other rehabs and some say to put spacers under the windshields. I plan to adjust the turnbuckles along the walkthrough to see if that will help. The...

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

I finally was able to work on the boat today. Attached are images of the knee brace before and after. The PO let the transom rot out and broke off the top of the brace. I used aluminum angle iron with spacers behind it to make it flush. Not the prettiest but it should do the job.

1977 Mercury 85 HP bad compression

I wanted to give everyone who responded an update on what I ended up doing. I bought a donor boat (Crestliner 16') with a 1985 Evinrude 115 hp. Very good compression and tilt / trim work great. Ran it with the muffler and sounded good. Once again, thanks for all the advice.

1977 Mercury 85 HP bad compression

I just found out my 1977 Mercury 85 has compression of 90, 90, 110, and 112. It also is not producing any spark. I am using it on a 1977 Starcraft Super Sport 18. Should I bother with the cost of repairing or look for another motor? Thanks

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

Candutch, I used basic outdoor carpet adhesive from Menards which costs about $12. I read a few posts and some used this type of project and it has worked them. Just make sure it is warm enough when you put it on. Bob

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

I finally was able to get another day working on the boat yesterday. I finished riveting the deck together, installed the vinyl floor, and replaced a few rivets on the bottom of the hull. Out of about 80 rivets, I somehow found the original hole about 5 times. My next work day will be installing...

    Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

Here is a star craft in a Chicago suburb. Looks like it has been in his backyard for a while. They are asking $1,200. https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/boa/5459842642.html

What do you think about the color options for the side panels, bow seats, and deck? I will probably go with a few white flakes in the deck vinyl. I have come to like the funky 1970s vinyl. The panels and bow seats would be marine upholstery fabric.

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

I had a good work day yesterday. Installing the transom is definitely a two man job if you leave the splash well in. After about two hours of pounding the transom trying to get it to fit, I discovered why it wouldn't cooperate. Evidently if you leave a chisel in the well, it won't go all the...

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

Managed to get away for an hour to epoxy my deck. I was reminded to keep the batches small so it does not harden up while trying to do multiple boards. I have a nice hockey puck at the bottom of my mixing container. Next step is to cut out my bow seats. The wood shop instructor told me...

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

Thanks for all the advise so far and so I have another question about rivets. I will be ordering rivets soon, and need to verify which ones to order. I know a lot of people order from rivets online. Any other places and do you have product orders so I don't mess up ordering? 1. Hull Exterior...

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

I was able to get some work done today. I measured and cut out the deck from 5/8 inch marine plywood. I was able to salvage the old bow deck section and part of the section below it as a template. I think it worked out pretty well. I am going to put a coat of resin on the wood then attach. I...

Day one of epoxying the transom. Yes, I know I cut one of the sections of plywood a bit too short. I will install the transom then measure out the deck and side panels.

Thank you for posting Watermann. Some images from gluing the transom last night. I don't think the two pieces will be moving.

1977 StarCraft 18' Super Sport Needs Rehab [SPLASHED 2017]

I have a question about the types of rivets to use. To install the 5/8 inch wood decking I am looking to use 1 inch x 3/16 width rivets with flange head. Is this correct? Also, I wondered how I was going to place the rivets in the same location as the old holes. I now know this is impossible...
