    89' 90 H.P. 3 Cylinder 2 Stroke Battery Charging Issue

Can you determine if the stator is ok by measuring the AC output of the yellow wires? I would guess that you should see at least 10V AC RMS at high RPMs since it sounds like it is an ungrounded winding full wave bridge diode setup.

Mercury 90 2 Stroke fouling one plug after some use, stalls when accelerating

Wow, you have done a lot of things. I've had similar problems with my 90hp although I've not had to dig that deep. Mine is a '99 model. Are you sure that its getting up to proper temperature? In my case the thermostat never closed enough at low speed so if I ran at low speed in a cool...

Merc 2006 50 hp 2 stroke carb tubing size help

You have to wonder how it was that the merc engineers came to choose that particular tubing size? Maybe someone told them that there was an excessive supply of that particular size so it would always be cheaper despite being an odd size. There seems to be a similar size of Tygon that is...

Merc 2006 50 hp 2 stroke carb tubing size help

I'll be interested in finding out the answer to this fuel line size question. I've got an '00 90 hp version. At one time I thought I'd be proactive and change all those little hoses but I never could find the right size. The local merc dealer did not have them nor did he know what to use so...

Regular maintenance - change just the impeller or entire housing too?

I have a 20 year old 90hp. Not sure why, perhaps a good design or because I don't abuse it. I changed the first complete pump kit 10 years ago despite the fact that everything looked fine. Last year (10 years later) I took it apart and everything looked fine so I put it back together didn't...

stuck in neutral on 90hp due to shifter on console

Thanks for uploading but That looks like the skinnier side mounted shift/throttle model unless its a view with lots of parts removed. Notice on my photo setcrew.jpg there are 2 of them on the same side. The diagram posted appears to have one on each side.

stuck in neutral on 90hp due to shifter on console

This is a saltwater flats boat. albeit a 20 year old Kenner. I have seen cellphone cables literally disappear when out there.

stuck in neutral on 90hp due to shifter on console

thinking back on this, I think that I caused the problem by depressing that black release button too agressively. That caused that red part inside to pop out a bit and it kicked that throttlecam off. I still wonder what those round large set screws are for.

stuck in neutral on 90hp due to shifter on console

Ok, I took it apart and by the time I moved things around it started working properly, so I don't know exactly what I did. Not a good thing if this happens in the middle of the bay. That cam link hopped off as I took it apart. It may have been blocking something when it hopped off. I took...

stuck in neutral on 90hp due to shifter on console

I suspect that there is some old grease in there that has dried out that does not allow the mechanism to release inside despite the fact that the button does pop out. I'm a bit reluctant to start taking it apart as I'm expecting that springs may launch. Too much bad experience with things like...

stuck in neutral on 90hp due to shifter on console

I've got a 90hp 1999 model s/n OT087666. Its got the console mount (not side mounted skinny version) shifter. Normal operation is that you push the button in on the throttle that allows you to stay in neutral in order to give more throttle for starting. I think what is happening is that when...

Merc runs on one tank and starves out at idle on the other tank

Has that one tank had ethanol fuel in it for a long time? If so that fuel may have gotten nasty enough that the pickup is clogging up.

Took boat to "marine mechanic" and now it's not drivable

There's really not much to those carbs. Just tedious to take them apart. So if you are careful and do not lose some small parts he may not have needed any carb parts. He may have gotten those fuel pump diaphram/gaskets out of sequence causing the problem you are experiencing. Getting...

    Cracked Clear Oil/Fuel Hose

That may be a bit of good luck to discover a battery on its last legs when you are at home vs on the water. Time to charge it all the way up and check it with a load tester. They may loan you a tester from an auto parts store.

Took boat to "marine mechanic" and now it's not drivable

If you decide to do a diy fuel pump rebuild which is not difficult pay close attention to the assembly sequence of those gaskets inside. it makes a big difference and the shop manual is not very clear. You can guess why I know.

    Cracked Clear Oil/Fuel Hose

That hose doesn't look like the oem hose. I wonder if it was a lower quality replacement or is that your new replacement in the photo? That's the kind of thing that gives me nightmares on my 90elpt. If it didn't overheat and compression is ok then you may be lucky.

Mercury Tilt switch in remote control question 88688a26

Mine was/is doing the same thing. Before I used a dremel tool disc to cut around that cover and get the switch out. After I got the switch out I lubed it up and it seemed to be ok so I put it back. Big mistake, the problem came back. I should have replaced it with a new switch. Should not...

    2008 Mercury 50 HP 2 Stroke Issues

I had a similar problem with a 90hp 2Str '99 that was caused by a thermostat that was stuck open, when I slowed down the motor cooled down and would die at idle unless I choked it periodically. It would warm up enough at high speed.
