When opening throttle, inline 6 speeds up for 20 s and then lose power

Thank you guys for replying. I now change it back to single line again. Tank under seat - primal bulb under seat - line - filter - line - engine. I put the boat back to water. The same boggle happens again. But this time I have the bulb pressed all the way on open throttle and it can run well...

When opening throttle, inline 6 speeds up for 20 s and then lose power

Take it back to home now. The fuel line problem pops up in my mind too. What I did before is to add a fuel line to my kicker days ago. I think that could cause this problem. The fuel tank now has prime ball and connects to the filter. the filer has two-way in and two-way out. So I connect one...

When opening throttle, inline 6 speeds up for 20 s and then lose power

Hi there, I am still on water, engine is 1977 inline 6 115. It starts and trolling idle very well. But whenever open throttle, it speeds up quickly for 20s and lose power. Everytime. I can idle back to ramp and occasionally on 2000s. Any hints what could be wrong?

Outboard stalls when put into forward after reverse first

The engine is 1977 inline 1150. The idle speed is 900-1000 no gear, 650-700 in forward. The carburetor is set according to the guidelines in this forum, 1/2 then 1/4 back turn from bogging down. Idling, hole short are all good. Compression is all good. However, when I first put it into reverse...

    Water intruding into cylinder

I am working on the replacing the powerhead. It's a brand new block. My pistons turn out to be 5 high dome(original) + 1 low dome(#2, replaced), and that's why the #2 compression is 125 psi vs 130 psi of others. Questions are: 1. Will the block be the same for high/low dome pistons? I believe...

    Water intruding into cylinder

Inner plate taken off today. Gaskets very good. Soot exist along all sides. It must be some cracks on the block, which is hard to see.

    Water intruding into cylinder

I will check that. The inner cover was replaced with a brand new one 1 year ago. Should be fine.

    Water intruding into cylinder

Motor is 1977 Mercury 1150. The power head and exhaust baffle are taken out. There is water intruding. Just have to figure out where is the water coming from. 1. The power head is dissembled after running the motor for 15 minutes on muff. 2. On the power head seating plate, the bottom shaft cap...

    sparking sound when idling

Thanks Thanks, Chris, it's air by path way, I guess, on the opposite way of exhaust. I checked it out, there is a hole tube from the side chamber to the bottom shaft holder, a very similar position to the one-way looping 1/8 tubing outside the powerhead. But, that could happen only after water...

    sparking sound when idling

I am now concerned about the water from bottom. If that is the case, there will be still water in cylinders even if I replace the powerhead. Just read some youtube, that water can intrude to bottom cylinder 3 ways: 1. lower crank shaft seal 2. exhaust port 3. air port I never checked the air...

    sparking sound when idling

I did change the crankshaft seals. I tried twice. the first time is "1 new + 2 old seals", the second time is "2 new seals". But symptom keeps going. That's why I choose to believe water comes from exhaust part or cylinder head, maybe from small hair cracks. The only concern about bottom seal...

    sparking sound when idling

I have dealt with the water intruding problem twice. Changed all the gasket and inner plate, exhaust out plates. The motor, I guess, has reached his limit. The water path corrosion is pretty bad. The inner plate has several holes. Although I replaced the inner plate, but I guess there must be...

    sparking sound when idling

There is one set of wire in speedway motor store, named "20 ft red 7mm solid core spark plug wire". Looks like a quality set. Do you think I can use that to replace the old ones? I already have the screw-in terminals. So another set of boot terminal is good to go?

    sparking sound when idling

updates: Found the fault plug, the spark is pretty long, from the boot to the outskirt. I have a spare one, so the sparking now looks fine. 100% confirmed. However, problems could come from the water intruding. When idling on muff, I am tuning the idling fuel screw. The top 2 respond very...

    sparking sound when idling

Motor is 1977 mercury 1150 with distributor. Motor starts ok. Idles the same as before, a little rough as usual. It idles a little rough in water, but always runs good on WOT. But I want to give it a check why it idles rough. When it idles, I can hear the sparking sound. Since it is too noisy...

    Grease in distributor cap

The motor becomes very hard to start after sitting for 3 months. It dies at idle even it agrees to start. After a series of tests, I found out the sparks are on and off randomly. When I opened the distributor cap, found out a lot grease covering some of the pins. The grease can be seen even...

Mounting bolt template for 1977 mercury 1150 with tilt

The reason I want to use a jack plate is I want to lift the outboard an inch or two. Now the streams line on the bottom is right on the ventilation plate. So 1 or 2 inch room to go for the shallow water.

Mounting bolt template for 1977 mercury 1150 with tilt

I have a 1977 mercury inline 6 1150 with power tilt. I am trying to install a manual lift jack box on my boat. But the old bolts pattern can not be found in any jack plate in market. I have now a CMC manual jack plate on hand. Does anyone have a boat pattern template or dimensions for that...
