I have had it one year. Got it running last October. I’ll open myself to mock and ridicule. After checking with three marine repairmen, each about my age. Old enough. I took out the thermostat, plastic thing and the spring and white ball thingy. After that it made water just fine, and the light...

So when I disassembled the water pump after no water, and motor got warm. What I discovered was the key fell out of the drive shaft. I have it back together, and was careful to be sure the impeller was engaged as I put the housing in place. Thanks Jimmbo. I’ll give it another try tomorrow.

Well, the water intrusion is solved. Now I’m having issues with the woodruff key staying in place. With the lower unit completely assembled I have up and down play in the drive shaft. Ran it at the lake, no water. Woodruff key was in the cup. The key could stand to be bigger. Maybe 3/32 into the...

After a 10 day holiday in Alaska I’m back. Trip was great by the way. Lower unit is back together, and on the motor. Tomorrow we launch. I took spark plugs out and turned the flywheel. Feels right. I changed 2 oil seals, prop shaft, and the top drive shaft one under the water impeller. A few...

That’s very helpful, thank you. Because before I knew it the entire thing was in pieces. The oil seal under the water impeller was shot. Once that was removed the fun began. Top drive shaft bearing was in pieces. Steel on aluminum, and two plus days later I have it out. Some scratches on...

Well folks I’ll have to go ahead and change the seals in this lower unit. Found new washers for vent and drain. I use Sierra brand type c lube. Ran it at the lake this morning, still came out looking like chocolate milk. I have had the parts on order for a few days. I’ve changed the water...

Don’t think so, I save each drain store in clear bottles. Some have been still for over a month. A thin layer of clean oil near the top.

Thanks I’ve done a lot. No vacuum yet, I think I’ll just replace the seals. Would you think the screw washers are bad. I’ll change those 1st.

I have a 1967 Evinrude 40 hp big twin electric shift. My issue is with milky lower unit lube. Had it air pressure tested and held for a full day. Fella told me it looked like the seal had been changed. I’ve changed lube a few times this summer, it’s worse after I run it in higher rpm’s. To me...
