    prop question

Personally, I avoid 4 and 5 blade Props like the Plague, as they kill the Top End because of all the extra Drag, and that Drag is greater at all speeds so your Fuel Mileage takes a hit also

Hard plane after switch from points ignition

Do you know what the Original Distributor had for an Advance Curve? You should be able to get that info from a Factory Manual

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

In the mid 50s the biggest OMC 2 strokes had a 5:1 Compression Ratio, upped to 5.5:1 in 56 or 57/ 14.7lbs/sq in with 5:1 would yield less than 75psi, and they ran

1987 40hp evinrude vro (oil deleted) carb issue?

Get a couple of Carb Rebuild Kits, and clean them, Properly, and then rebuild them. taking the time to ensure the Float is set right, and that all needed Gaskets are used As for the chip in the carb body on the Throttle Shaft, while you have it off spray some carb cleaner on the Shaft and see...

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

I'm not going to reread everything, but can the Ignition System produce a Spark that can Jump a 3/8" gap. I know you said you used a Spark Tester, but those range from Good to less than Useless An Engine requires 3 basic things to Run. 1) Fuel and Air delivered to the Combustion Chamber 2)...

1987 40hp evinrude vro (oil deleted) carb issue?

A lot of Idle and Off Idle Problems are because of Gum/Varnish/Dirt under #5, soaking just lets more of the above settle in there. The Disk has to be removed, the chamber cleaned, and a new disk installed.

    prop question

Turning Point, IMHO, has had very poor QC in the past. I remember opening several Boxes, and finding one of the Blades, not the Same as as the Others. Stick with Mercury/Quicksilver. As for which Pitch, it would have been nice to know what rpm the 21 attained, so getting a new hub/insert would...

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

You would likely be better off taking this one apart for Cleaning, and Adjustment, than buying another potential Set of Problems

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

Just soaking carbs isn't going to get all the Gunk out of the Passages. That is why the OEM Carb Kits come with little Disks and Lead Balls. The matching ones on the Carb, have to be removed to gain Access to where Gum/Varnish/Dirt hide and cause issues.

    Anti-Ventilation Plate Height?

I guess that could be a Motor and Prop for a Sailboat

    Anti-Ventilation Plate Height?

I will assume you have twin outboards, and the fact that you aren't running a Performance type Prop, in fact the Prop shown isn't either for that engine, or some adapters are missing. No it is not the correct height

Help with my 2005 f15elhd 4 stroke engine rpms. Not a new engine but new to me. Switched to a 12 degree from 11 degree as i felt rpms were high.

Were both Props from the Line of Props(manufacturer, Model, both cupped or uncupped), or was one Brand/Model A, and the other Brand/Model X?

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

The center Cylinder drew from both Carbs. Created some very odd flow through the carbs, which in 2, 4, and 6 cylinder inlines, had induction draw from 2 cylinders 180 degrees apart. with more or less Equal Pressure Drop. With 2 carbs for 3 cylinders, the flow wasn't as even

Spraying fuel into carb makes no diff, and disconnecting Sparkplug wire makes no diff, Perhaps the Plug is somehow defective, try swapping them

"Very little Suction"... Was Fuel getting sprayed back on your Hand when you covered the Carb? Are the Oil Streaks on the Block, along the Crankcase Seam, or coming down from under the Flywheel?

    Prop size and pitch

If you are only getting 3200rpm at WOT, I don't think there a Prop with a low enough Pitch to to even 5000rpm. 1800rpm shy, means you would need an 8" or 9" Pitch, As mentioned, you need to verify the Tach My 78 90hp with a 17, turning 4800 was getting 38mph. WOT Range 4500-5000 My 84 115hp...

I assume your motor is a 4 stroke. If not a model# would be very helpful There should be a Friction Adjustment on the Swivel Bracket #23

    40hp Dead Top Cylinder

When you put your hand over the top Carb, did you feel any Suction? A bad Intake Manifold to Block Gasket can prevent Crankcase Inhalation/Compression, as can a bad/worn Upper Crankshaft Seal. Look on the outside of the Block. Is there any signs of Oil running down the Outside?

Any saving the engine? I’m devastated

It wouldn't hurt if you unscrewed them, cleaned the area, hit them with some Deox. Of course there is the risk of Damaging the Wire and/or Connector Ends... The Motor is a 74 and thus 50 yrs old
