Electric boat maker shutters plant in WV

Although I am an old fart, I am way to young to "remember " the Hindenburg disaster. I only read about it. Static electricity is a known, but invisible risk. Even today it causes fires at gas stations when a static electricity spark ignites gasoline. There is at least one state in the USA where...

Electric boat maker shutters plant in WV

So electric power may not yet be the answer. The bugs will probably be eliminated one by one. The only way to move forward with alternative energy sources is to try ,fail, and try again until serious progress is achieved. We know what gasoline does to the environment and I think we would all...

    Identify this fuel guage

I would just google "marine fuel gauge" and then click images. There is a very good chance that your gauge will pop up while scrolling down the many gauges that are shown. I think that it is a generic white gauge.

    20volt drill

I don't know if it will ever be the same. I do know that there are a lot of very discounted sales of Dewalt 20 volt drills right now. I would get a spare now. Maybe wait till Black Friday, but definitely get a spare before this one gives up the spirit just when you need it.

    1957 Johnson Rd-19 35hp questions

Next time, use marvel mystery oil or a very light hydraulic oil (gear or steering) Because now you have to get rid of the pc blaster in that bearing. Any way you should pour a little bit of gear oil to flush the bearing and remove the pc blaster. I keep on forgetting to write it down, but the...

    1957 Johnson Rd-19 35hp questions

That is fairly simple. You would shorten it from 28 to 23 inches. You can shorten the water tube and the shift rod. That much is simple. The more complicated one would be the drive shaft. You will have to look for a short shaft drive shaft. The 57,58,59 and 60 all use the same shaft although you...

    1957 Johnson Rd-19 35hp questions

On a side note. When you decarb the engine , make sure that the wind will move the smoke away from houses and stuff like that. It produces a wicked mean black smoke. Last time I did it, I had the cops over in my backyard because they thought I had a fire in my yard, which, by the way, proved...

    1957 Johnson Rd-19 35hp questions

You should start with buying a Seloc manual for Johnson/Evinrude Outboards 1.5 to 40 hp.The 1956 to 1970 version. Yes a Seloc because it has everything in it that you need and it is written with the beginner in mind. I have owned 3 1957 35 horse Johnsons and apart from being very thirsty engines...

MerCruiser 4.3L V6 engine block part identification needed

Some carburetors have a choke system that use exhaust gas heat to choke the carb and that oval thing you see is where it connects. You can just install an electric choke on your carburetor and ignore the thing. The oval thing has the "Choke Stove" which is just a piece of tubing. It should have...

    Why is my gas orange?

Old Bill Mayer from Mayers Marina in Webster,NY, taught me that in order to really clean a metal tank, you have to pour a few quarts of lacquer thinner into the can and a few hands full of roofing nails. you shake it real good every few hours and leave this concoction about 24 hours in the tank...

    Boat age vs financing.

Cobras have a bad reputation, which at one point held value, but at this point it is no longer deserved. There are a lot of spare parts available and a lot of servicing things are easier to do. It is nice not to have to take off the lower unit in order to check or change the impeller. Tilt/trim...

    Boat age vs financing.

I don't understand why you would want to finance a project boat. Over the past year I sold a 1984 19 foot Islander in very good condition but sort of crappy looking for $2500 and that included a fish hawk x4 and a furuno 628 fishfinder. I was lucky to get that money because the price for these...

Does anyone remember when car & boat engines only had.

I remember that system on my 1943 Harley Davidson Liberator. I always had a little tool kit with spare points and plugs tied onto the sidecar. I bought it in 1973 brand new in the crate from an army over stock depot in Marocco while on a tip there. I drove it north to the Netherlands where 2...

    Lake Ontario

Thunder storms with heavy rain and lots of lightning can form 10 miles away from you in the Lower Great Lakes area. They will come at you at 40 miles an hour and surprise you.I have actually had to run north toward Canada to escape because these storms often hug the shore line. Always top of you...

    Lake Ontario

Any boats that lay in a slip all summer will eventually have wood rot. Boats that are trailered and kept under cover when not in use will have far less of a problem. The big exception is the Boston Whaler. Those rigs are exceptional in quality.

    Lake Ontario

I have fished Lake Ontario weekly for the past 25 years. I started with a 17 footer which is fine for nice sunny days. From there I went up to an 18 footer. These boats usually have a much higher gunnel and lay a bit deeper in the water, next was a 19 foot Starcraft Islander and now a 22 footer...

I am starting to believe some of the global warming in N J.

Roscoe, with all due respect, but Lake Michigan does not have the arctic and antarctic melt off flow into it. Also the water in Lake Michigan streams out of it toward the lower lakes and finally the Ocean. On the other hand, the oceans are the final destination of water and there is no down...

    Telltale on lower unit?

I still say not normal. If it is just a drizzle, sure, that would be normal, but when it "shoots out a steady stream" that is not normal. It would mean that the exhaust housing is full of water and that it is pressurized enough to shoot out a steady stream. That water should have flown freely...
