I need help, boat runs rough and stalls. I pumped new gas and lots more.. I need help

Ok so I replaced the module and was able to go through the timing process. The smoke stopped, but still an issue. Timing was about 3/4 btdc not perfect. Removed jumper wire and reconnected interrupter and timing adjusted to 11.5 btdc. Then I could hear a knock sound and the timing would...

I need help, boat runs rough and stalls. I pumped new gas and lots more.. I need help

How can I time it correctly if I need to connect the shift interrupt wires first? Smoke looked more blue, so oil I guess. Without the shift interrupt switch wires connected the timing read I would guess 16 degrees before TDC. It was above the 12 degree mark, but again the module wires were...

Also the oil pressure gauge reads as it normally does, just below 40psi. And engine temp is normal about 130 at idle it doesn’t really heat up at idle.

I need help, boat runs rough and stalls. I pumped new gas and lots more.. I need help

Yes, water on like I normally do it. Went back out and started it again. So starts right up, eventually idle surges up to maybe 1500rpm see some smoke and idles back down. Shut off engine and heard the alarm for a few seconds. I check the dipstick and it is clean and same level, so I guess no...

I need help, boat runs rough and stalls. I pumped new gas and lots more.. I need help

Oh man…. So I started the boat and for the first time ever a huge cloud of smoke came out for about 20 secs. I warmed the engine. Put the timing light on the plug wire closest to the front (pulleys and belts side) of the engine #1? Then connected the jumper wire to the two white wires on the 3...

Sorry I get it I think. If I were to mark the pulley for 27 degrees, make the mark to the right of the notch on the pulley.. Sorry. But that got me thinking. If I set the timing light to 27 degrees, where should it flash on my timing cover? Still at 1 degree before tdc? It is just moving the...

Also I bought a timing light with degree adjustment so I do not have to try and mark it and do math :).

I am about to check timing, but the cover plate shows before to the left of notch and after to the right. When facing the front of engine, facing the rear of the boat. I just replaced my timing cover, is it backwards? When reading the timing marks it shows before is above zero and after is...

Can’t find a loaner. But you say the tape goes on the pulley? The pulley has a belt on it. The tape needs to go and the circumference, not the face of it right? Either way I do not think there is much room to place the tape down there anyway it is pretty covered up. Wait I think I get it. I...

I need help, boat runs rough and stalls. I pumped new gas and lots more.. I need help

Ok, thanks for the explanation on this. I just watched a video on making timing tape, but I don’t think I could put it on this balancer as it has a belt on it where the tdc mark is. So I might need a different timing light. Carb, fuel pump, wires, spark plugs, cap and rotor are all brand new...

So is the idea, if my timing advances to 12+ or - 2 degrees then I do not need to check the 24-2800 rpm spec? I do not know the life span of a module, but it is the original part from 1997.

Yes I have the 97 3.0 LX with EST ignition. I understand to check and adjust the initial timing at idle, it is step 8 that gets me. I would like to rule out the idea that my module is faulty I would like to complete this step. My manual states 10-14 BTDC once I reconnect the the neutral and...

UPDATE FOUND AT LEAST ONE PROBLEM: Pulled the horn off the carb and I found a tiny piece of Paper Towel under the float needle. HAHA LOL, please let me laugh before all of you do. I wiped the inside of the NEW carb and left some paper towel behind. F-ing A my dumb luck. The boat is idling...

I need help, boat runs rough and stalls. I pumped new gas and lots more.. I need help

Ok I have the idle at about 800-1000 fluctuates any lower it will die. I look in carb with choke open and engine warm and I can not see fuel I tap throttle and see fuel. I shut off the engine and can not see fuel dripping either.

I need help, boat runs rough and stalls. I pumped new gas and lots more.. I need help

My old carb ran great for 3 years. I assume the float was adjusted pretty good. So switching to the old float may take out the guess work that is what I meant. Unless the new carb has different specs slightly, which I can not seem to find. My goal is to not damage my engine. If I adjust the...

So my manual says 14mm for the level that seems to leave the float too high (measurement too small), so what do you think I should go with? 15mm, 17, 20?? I saw on a youtube video (mikes carburetor parts) to go level with the gasket. As in parallel. That would be I would guess 17mm or so.. Or...

I need help, boat runs rough and stalls. I pumped new gas and lots more.. I need help

Ok I think I get this, if there is fuel dripping in at idle then the level is set too low. I should increase the level measurement. Is that right? I could throw in the old carb float and see what happens. New and old float level was set to spec, but drop was way over I assume the old carb...

so vacuum is 13-14 and idle is 1000 and it stumbles and after a min or 2 will shut off. this is with idle mixture at 1 1/4 turns. Exhaust smells like gas for sure. So should I be increasing idle and screwing in the mixture since the exhaust smells like gas? I assume this will bring the idle...

No prob about merge. Thanks. There is a plug to the right of the carb on the manifold, that is where I put the vacuum gauge. The reading is about 15-16 until I make adjustments. I have read that 19.5 is perfect for sea level, but I am starting to think that this motor may be around 16 at sea...
