1979 Cobalt 18DV w/ MerCruiser 260 and Alpha 1 - No Raw water to engine

That might work, here in salt water land I/O boats moored in the water often start to run hot due to marine growth in the water intakes. I have to clean em each season sometimes 2x.

1979 Cobalt 18DV w/ MerCruiser 260 and Alpha 1 - No Raw water to engine

Are the exhaust elbows getting hot? Did you make sure all the passages in the thermostat housing are open? Power steering cooler not clogged? Sometimes the water tube grommets in the outdrive get hard & don’t seal or it’s possible moves out of place while replacing the impeller?

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

That’s one of the many reasons for my resentment toward “that” administration and so they put people in car loans some couldn’t afford for cheap disposable cars that have long since been junked. Meanwhile my old 98 is still running well, needs work still but one of the easiest to work on...

    Mercruiser Setting Timing on 3.0L

Great work! I did a similar job on my '88 4.3 V6 back in '17. The cleaning and parts inspection are important, as is keeping everything organized. I would consider cleaning the carb, I think with your compression test results as consistent as they are now, it should idle smoother. Also, be...

    New Stuff on Vehicles likes/dislikes

Lol My older vehicle faves are Jeeps with the 4.0 liter in-line six. Wrangler, Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. Easy to repair, fun off road and tons of interchangeable parts and aftermarket support. Have everything you need nothing that you don’t….values on good Wranglers are high, Cherokee is...

thinking of a Delco EST ignition system conversion but have a few concerns....

She’ll like that idea Scott! Yep I have 2 spare Prestolites on a shelf in my garage right below the shelf with the spare fuel pumps & Holley 4160 & Edelbrock 1409 lol.

thinking of a Delco EST ignition system conversion but have a few concerns....

Yep I think I'm holding off on that project, I could do the Petronix and there are ESA modules that work with the Cobra ESA system, I'd just keep a spare module for it if I did so. Just did my points the other day, I have a few sets of spares, what I do is I have 2 points plates (bought a used...

Opinions of engine owners. Least trouble and lower cost. Carburetor or F I ?

The Escort may have been sold in Canada, but as far as I know not south of the border, I think they got the Cortina too.

thinking of a Delco EST ignition system conversion but have a few concerns....

One thing, is how available are the Delco D1965A modules? I searched around for these just to see how easy they'd be to find, and am not seeing that they are that easily available. For a $575 cost (from Michigan Motorz) I'm not buying something that is useless if you can't get a module, yes I...

    Trailer Tongue Too Long?

different environments, different skills acquired when I was a new driver I often had to drive into NYC, so I learned how to stay alive on the old West Side Highway, the FDR Drive and the Belt Parkway. Hint: don't slow down, ever unless absolutely necessary! The environment also dictated the...

We never got the European style Escort in the US but we did get the Ford Capri sold here as a Mercury with a choice of the 1.6 or 2.0 engines.

Winterization Ford 2.3 and OMC Cobra

PS the one on the port side for the pivot housing/raw water hose you will usually get water from, you may have to rod it out with a pic the ones on the starboard side (there are 2) are there in case either the gasket between the pivot housing and drive leaks, or if the threaded fitting for the...

Opinions of engine owners. Least trouble and lower cost. Carburetor or F I ?

By coincidence with this discussion I replaced my points & condenser today. What I do is I have 2 complete point plates so it’s easier to just have it all set up and I just swap them when needed. Then I take the old points & condenser off of the plate I took off & replace with new and it’s ready...

    Flat tire on haul-out today . . .

The other thing surprising to me is on my 07 Grand Cherokee I have only had to replace one sensor in all this time!

that was exactly why I hesitated to do it! I'd only buy genuine GM, nothing else.

    Flat tire on haul-out today . . .

One thing I like about the Jeep/Chrysler system is that it is self learning. If you need to replace a sensor you don't have to have a programming tool, it just updates as you drive. On our Subaru you need a programming tool which I do have, but why does it have to be that way....to get you to...

Opinions of engine owners. Least trouble and lower cost. Carburetor or F I ?

Depending on if it's a car/truck or boat, carbs give you choices Quadrajet Holley Carter/Weber/Edelbrock even for the Quadrajet which has not been made in 30+ years you can get just about any part you'd need, as long as you have a good core and the throttle shafts aren't getting sloppy Holley...

    Trailer Tongue Too Long?

shorter trailers are much harder to back up because they turn faster and sharper. the front hitch makes it 100% easier. all boat yards use them, either on a pick up truck or on the front of an ATV or even on a forklift...
