    Trailer Tongue Too Long?

I have a long tongue on my old Load Rite trailer and love it, that's how I keep the tow vehicle's tires out of the salt water on my local ramp. Can you add a front hitch to your tow vehicle? They make maneuvering the trailer in tight spaces a lot easier. Here's one on my old '98 Grand Cherokee...

1994 Four Winns 5.0 OMC Cobra didn't get winterized

From what I can see it looks like it's a 94, that looks like the joint venture between OMC and Volvo where the drive was switched to cone clutch shifting and it is the same as a Volvo SX. Which is better for you since parts are easier to find and more mechanics will work on it, than for the...

1994 Four Winns 5.0 OMC Cobra didn't get winterized

I've owned a 4.3 4bbl Cobra for 23 years so I'm pretty familiar with the changes over the years and the challenges in finding certain parts, etc. Also post up a pic of the drive. If it looks like a Volvo SX painted dark grey, then it's a '94, if instead it is flat across the top, painted the...

1994 Four Winns 5.0 OMC Cobra didn't get winterized

Since you have a '94 it's possible to have a '93 drivetrain in a '94 boat and in this case it makes a big difference because the '93 was the last year of the original OMC Cobra with dog clutch shifting, the '94 was a new design using a modified Cobra transom mount and a Volvo style drive with...

1994 Four Winns 5.0 OMC Cobra didn't get winterized

That’s the only way to get a working boat without wasting a lot of time on an engine that’s scrap iron. Gonna cost you though

Need help: Bizarre Bravo III freshwater galvanic corrosion quandry

Most trim senders are wired to be energized when the ignition is on, so those wires shouldn’t be getting any voltage when the ignition is off… Even tho I’m 100% in salt water it’s not a marina where boats can be on shore power so stray current really isn’t an issue…

Need help: Bizarre Bravo III freshwater galvanic corrosion quandry

There are ways of measuring if you have enough anode protection; and I agree your’s don’t look depleted as one would expect. When I pull my boat after 6 months on the salt water mooring they’re about 20 % depleted, I always put new ones on in the spring.

    Flat tire on haul-out today . . .

Wow all this make you realize that a TPMS system for trailers could be a really good idea! That pic of the tire on Scott's trailer is why I still use bias ply tires, yes they don't last as long but on a trailer they usually will dry rot before the tread wears out, long before actually. No steel...

    Dragging caliper away from home

That's what I'd do. Crack the bleeder, and see if it continues to drag, if so maybe you can use a C-clamp to pinch the hose to keep the caliper from applying. My experience with disc brake calipers is once they start dragging they usually continue, unless it's the guide pins and not the actual...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

WOW I've been boating in the Long Island Sound area for over 20 years and never seen anything like that! In fact I pulled my boat recently to fix a few things and all I had on the outdrive was a light coating of slime and a few barnacles. That stuff, I have never seen!

    Flat tire on haul-out today . . .

We had a valve stem on the spare tire of our sons Jeep Wrangler dry rot from being in the sun & it only leaked when you wiggled it.

    Loosing Faith in Humanity . . .

I have sold stuff on craig's list and did pretty well with it, but I would meet the buyer at a parking lot with people around, I did not want them coming to my house, and this stuff was too big to ship (tires mounted on rims that I had no use for). I've done pretty well with buying stuff on ebay...

Ford 302 engine oil dipstick - 1995 OMC Cobra, Ford 302, VolvoSX

Here it’s driven by government mandates for fuel economy but none of the oils that are for fuel economy are adequate for inboard marine engines under constant load. The ones I’d use are 20/50, or the Mercruiser/Quicksilver 25/40 or their best which is the 25/50 syn blend. The 20/50 is much...

    4.3 gxi run without water...

Could convert back to a 4bbl carb! Not cheap unless you buy used stuff. Edelbrock 1409 new is like $620, a Holley 4160 new like what OMC & Volvo used is about $900 now, plus a 4bbl intake ($300). Also would need a low pressure fuel pump.

    Best flooring options?

If an alu boat was practical here I’d like to have one! But mooring in salt water has to be hard on them like it is on outdrives…

    Best flooring options?

I’d imagine that would be a huge amount of work to restore. Mine was simpler like a conventional bow rider and I had the deck glassed & coated in non skid gel coat back in 2007 & it’s still in good shape now….

Ford 302 engine oil dipstick - 1995 OMC Cobra, Ford 302, VolvoSX

On the GM engines the automotive location for the dipstick was on the starboard side of the block and when these systems for the tube that connects to the pan are used the hole for the dipstick is filled with a rubber plug. On then it’s possible to add an automotive style dipstick; not sure if...

    Best flooring options?

If you’re replacing the deck why not have it glassed & then gel coated in non skid gel coat? Pretty durable and nothing to hold moisture against the wood…
