Hey Guys and Gals. I started a new user name because I couldn't get access to my old one because I forgot my password. My email has changed and the old one doesn't work any more. Was wondering if it is possible to combine all my posts to this user name.

    Stuck oil filter

Mornin' Guys and Gals. I have been fighting with this oil filter for 2 days. The engine in question is a 2012 4.3 Mercruiser. Have it ripped down to the plate and can't get it to budge. I have search through forum and the entire internet for ideas on how to get this thing off. I'm ready to...

    Coil wire install

Hey Guys and Gals, quick question. I am working on a 2012 Larsen with a 4.3 Mercruiser. Changing wires and plugs and the coil wire was glued in. Had to rip it out and left a bunch of that material in the coil. Was going to clean it out and the book says to apply some insulating material in...

    U-joint bellows ring

Hey guys. Hope everyone is having a good holiday season, so far. Took the bell housing off, changed all the bellows, water hose and drive oil line. Cannot get that ring on the u-joint bellows in. Is bellows adhesive required at that location. I made a tool to drive it in, but i suspect i will...

alpha 1 gen 2 Speedo not wworking

Hey people, been a while. Just got my drive all serviced and ready to go. Last year my speedo was not working so I thought I would fix that this year. I can't force air through pick up in the lower drive from either direction. I cleared the passage from the bottom with a drill bit by hand and...

    Switching to 4 barrel carb

Asking for a friend. He froze his 5.0L and moved most of the bolt ons to a 5.7L short block including the intake and 2 barrel carb. I have a 4 barrel Carter, which was on my 5.7L which we would like to put on his 5.7L. What would we need to accomplish this and would it be worth the effort...

    Painting out drive

Went to the paint store to pick their brains about painting my out drive. They recommended this stuff. Also he said i will need to strip all the pain off with this stripper he recommended. He also said both products were safe on aluminum. This is a re branded version of Por15, if you guys are...

    drive check valve

I was noticing this puddle of gear oil under my drive after i removed it a couple of week ago. This was a little unusual,so I looked a little closer and saw this. If parts hit the floor, I'll need to replace them as I swept the floor and am not seeing any. Not sure what I'm missing.

    327 in 1990 Invader

My buddy has a 1990 Invader with a cracked 4.3 and he wants to replace it with a 327. Don't know the year, or serial number yet. Think it would be an Alpha one. Is this a simple swap? He thinks he can just bolt it on. Any info or direction would be awesome. I'll get serial numbers. thanks, Ken

    Engine stumble when adjusting trim

Hey people. Tested my boat last weekend with new carb, 1409 Edelbrock ( as discussed in another thread at length) and it ran flawlessly. No flat spots, stumble or beats missed. Only thing is, when cruising, if I adjust the trim, the engine stumbles and my gauges freak out. Is this related, or...

    dirty High 5 SS prop

Hey Guys, I left my boat in the water most of last summer and was able to get most everything clean, except for the prop. Tried toilet bowl cleaner and oxalic acid to no avail. Hope I didn't etch it. I like it to sparkle. Any ideas to get that off. Very thin layer, but hard as a rock.

    Edelbrock 1409

Hey Guys, haven't been here for a while. I just purchased this carb for my boat. It currently has the original carb on it, with a vacuum activated choke and the new one has electric. Not sure how to wire this. I don't have the carb yet, but I'm sure it will be in the instructions. Input would...

    5.7 engine build

Good day people: Finally got around to dismantling a 1998 5.7 GMC Vortec engine I acquired last summer. I swapped it out for another for a friend of mine and he let me keep the old one. I thought it might be a head gasket, but they didn't show any obvious damage. So I'm thinking its a cracked...

    Will it freeze?

Good morning. Have a quick question for you guys. I realize you people can't predict the future, but I'm open to "educated guesses". I will be launching my SeaRay today and am planning on leaving it in the water all weekend. The forecast overnight lows are 4*c, 6*c and 1*c. Is this playing with...

    swap 1995 5.7 for 1998 5.7

I have acquired a 98 5.7, from a 98 GMC Sierra Z71, with a blown head gasket and an antifreeze milkshake currently in it. I am considering changing head gasket, all electricals, intake, core plugs, etc for my 95 5.7 currently in my 95 Sea Ray. There is nothing wrong with current engine and it is...

    Gelcoat repair

Hey Guys, Haven't been around in a while as my boat has been behaving. All winterized and put away for the long winter and needing nothing. I guess I shouldn't be saying that so loud. On another matter, my friend has rubbed through the gelcoat on his Bayliner and I volunteered to repair it for...

    Trying to identify 5.7 block

So far, in another thread, this is where we are. And the winner is 14093638...350...87-95...2 or 4...Roller or flat tappet cam, one-piece rear seal. This is a little confusing because this engine has a composite timing cover which wasn't used till 96. DonS suggested we try the serial number...

    Positive crankcase pressure?

Well, I thought I had the " oily bilge" problem licked. Still has a leak at the distributor. Our work mechanic said there shouldn't be oil that high unless there is positive pressure. The tubes coming from the valve covers going to the carb appear to be open. I re-sealed the engine as...
