    Compression test

Basically, compression readings should be within 10% of each other on a "healthy" engine. Some folks say within 10 psi. So, you are right there on percentage and just outside the 10psi rule - which is a rule that does not make much sense since it does not take into account actual compression...

    4.3GXI-E Excessive fuel consumption continued....

2004 Monterey 282 Please judge - I value your opinion. I love and hate this boat. It is not my cup of tea, but fit the bill for all involved. A couple reasons I picked this boat. I do over 100 mile runs (Chesapeake, Delaware, Atlantic) so twins are nice - so far in my 60 years on the...

    4.3GXI-E Excessive fuel consumption continued....

Thanks - I will research the ability to perform the balance test. I have not poked around with the Techmate too much yet. Fuel pressure test should be easy. I understand the need to be loaded and keeping the conditions same.

    4.3GXI-E Excessive fuel consumption continued....

I went down last week to do this, and my brand new tool set on the boat has a 5/8" spark plug socket too thick to fit under manifold! Will try again next week with thinner socket.

    4.3GXI-E Excessive fuel consumption continued....

Looking for some help with my thinking. I was chasing excess fuel consumption even though engine seems to run fine. Might be a squeak bit rougher idling, but starts fine and runs fine. Here is what I have so far: Ended up using a Techmate to pull data from engines. Boat has twins, so easy...

    5.7 GXI-HF making "whistling" noise

I have had some crazy noises from serpentine belts - spraying some water on them can stop the noise temporarily. I had a screech I swore was a bearing - was the belt.

    4.3 gxi-e "impulse limiter"?

Thank you very much for the explanation and that makes perfect sense.

    4.3 gxi-e "impulse limiter"?

Can anyone tell me what the "impulse limiter's" function is? It is connected to a hose that goes to top of fuel cell reservoir. Other end goes to intake manifold. It looks like a check valve but it's not called that. I'm out on the water and do not have access to the efi manual. Googling...

    Stripped threads on carburetor

This is like what I used a long time ago - not sure what sizes are available.

    Stripped threads on carburetor

Do you think a brass NPT hose barb would be out of the question? It does look like the wall is pretty thin. I never tapped zinc, though that fitting did cut new threads on the Rochester and I am pretty sure that was zinc.

    Stripped threads on carburetor

I did this to a Rochester nearly 50 years ago - they made a replacement fitting that cut new threads as you cranked it in. I do not remember what that fitting was called, but it did exist. Also - you could drill out and tap the carb for a larger fitting, then use a nipple and piece of fuel...

Sounds good - I will give that a try. Thanks

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Wanted to post a quick update. The Port fuel flow sensor is defective - vane did not want to rotate reliably. So this explains funky/pulsating readings. I did a leak down test on the Starboard fuel rail. Applied power to pump, read 54 PSI on fuel rail. Shut down pump and waited till PSI...

    New Style U-joint Bellows DP-SM

I installed these new design bellows in 2018. Each year I inspect them thoroughly (as best I can with a bore scope). They have been on my list to replace ( I usually replace every 5 years). They are going into their 7th year and look like new. Boat is freshwater/brackish. My universal...

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Thanks, that is a good video. I have done this before, but had access! Boat is a Monterey 282, engines are under deck not hatch. So have about 10" of clearance.

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Thanks - the injectors will be fun, buried under the deck! Luckily I am small framed, just might fit.

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Alldodge - I'd like to pick your brain a little more, but keep in mind I tend to overcomplicate things! I have seen a sheen on the water's surface around this engine/outdrive. Always assumed it was from the trim, but now realize it is not and it smells like gas. Seems raw fuel is working...

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

I do have MefiScan, so I can do that. I wonder if the fuel flow sensor on Port engine is defective?? It is new. I could swap the flow sensors and see if the behavior follows the sensor.

    2004 4.3GXI-E running rich

Just looking for some thoughts before I dig into this - I think I have the basics covered but wanted to double check. I have twin 4.3's and independent gas tank for each engine. Noticed my starboard engine seems to burn more fuel than the port. Also noticed starboard exhaust smells rich...
