So I found out going through the carb the low speed needle tip was bent right at the tip. I noticed before it had a tendency to "lean sneeze" or pop back when idled down and it didn't seem like adjusting the low speed did much at all. And there was no seal/packing in there like there is on the...

The boats a 14ft crosby sea sled that's had a hard life. I had the boat for a bit and sold it. It resurfaced on marketplace and i got it back cheap. But it now has roll on bed liner on the hull. The rubbery kind. So im sure thats hurting things. Boats rated at 40hp and before the hull got...

Yeah that line checked out good. Yes and no. I did order a kit and pump through Amazon. However. I also ordered a Sierra kit for the carb. The Sierra kit is supposed to be here in the morning through O'Reilly's believe it or not. I can't find a OEM or similar pump. Just rebuild kits...

Brand new fuel line. Brand new primer bulb. Now my line is like 6-8feet long would that matter? And Ive heard the primer needs to be in a vertical position not laying horizontal. Is that true? And i found a couple of issues when I got it home. 1. The fresh fuel is no good. Not sure if...

Well got it in the lake. Unsure if its a pump issue or a carb issue. It'll run decent then act like it cant get fuel. If I keep pressure on the primer it'll stay running. Though if I let it run out and stall. I can pull yhe line off the fuel pump and pull it over and its pumping fuel when I...

Had to order one. I was keeping a close eye on the water flow. Just wanted to tinker with it today and see how it ran when it got some heat into it. Super impressed with how easy this thing starts just 2 pulls. A pull with choke then 1 more with choke off and its running. Can that glass fuel...

Gave it some lengthy run time today in a barrel and its pretty good. Starts very easy. Pumps water good and i kept checking and the power head stayed just warm to the touch.

I may actually have one that fits. And this one does have the access to undo the shift linkage

Im gonna run it, it starts easy, is way smoother than most other old engines I've had. Not nearly as loud either, but i assume thats got to do with the metal cowl and silencer on the carb.

Ah. I knew when paint looked flaky that was a sign. I figured age simply took some color with it. How bad do you think it was over heated going off the paint? I obviously dont wanna trash the engine. It runs great and cylinders and pistons DO look good. Upon starting it fairly quickly...

Yeah I figured as much on the paint. Like i say not sure if its an attempt at a patina look or just somebody painting on it over the years. I still enjoy the appearance. Over heated? What makes you say that? The litte jb weld repair on the head? I would have thought an overheated engine would...

Just here to ramble on mostly. While scrolling marketplace i was on the hunt for a 10-25hp outboard. I tend to stick with Johnson/Evinrude. I wanted to be in the sub 200$ range and around here that doesn't leave you much. Usually older worn out motors 5-10hp that run or 10-25hp that tend to...

1978 Johnson 140hp running rough. Need advice

So these carbs im not sure what kits were used on them. I just did a quick inspection and shot cleaner threw the jets to confirm everything flowed and on they went. But they have plastic pins for the float pivots? Not sure if they're factory or not but on one carb it is definitely "catching"...

I pulled plugs after that run and it didn't appear to be running lean. Atleast not for long enough periods for the plugs to show. Not sure what to look for though on the floats. One did kinda "catch" when I popped the bowls and made sure all was clean. But it was okay once I shot some cleaner...

No idea. I went through those carbs several times. Honestly? Those carbs weren't supplying enough fuel on the idle/transition. Drilling the jets on the top carb did improve it, but wasn't happy with it. Something was wrong on those idle circuits.

Well I'll say it seemed smoother on the top end. But these like i say have some float issues? Sometimes you'll hear the rpm bog and hitting the key for the primer it picks right back up. It'll also do the same if you swing a turn to hard. But both sets wide open ran out about 39-40mph.

Actually helped both. But helped the hole shot tremendously. Idle was smooth and it no longer has a lean sneeze.

So I've been away a bit. But I decided to swap the later 140 carbs on. Smaller bore carbs but from a 82or 83 140. Fixed ALOT of the issue's idles good. Runs strong. No bogs off idle etc. They do have some float issues. One of them was going from hanging shut and me having to hold the...

Definitely doing things on a bit of a budget. I can try and find another head, but it seems a bit hard to get a starboard head
