    Changing oil without a dipstick

Yep, the dipstick should have been transferred from the old engine or a new one installed. There is probably a hole, mine was on the starboard side, that can be used.

I replaced the water pump impeller and now I have problem with overheating

Do you have the blue flush port? If so, make sure you cap is on tight and that it is sealing. If not, it will suck in air.

    Penta Cooling Hose

That looks like a power steering coolant line that ruptured. Did you loose power steering fluid when it ruptured, an oily mess?. the other end should terminate at the power steering pump. Pull the hose from the pump and disconnect there. then go to an auto parts store and buy a replacement. You...

New Engine Installed - adjust cam angle 2001 5.7 GXI-A engine

When I did mine a few years ago, I used a Rhinda techmate unit. If you seat the distributor in the correct cam tooth you will likely get it to fire and run, but the distributor will need to be finely tuned to get the correct angle, I believe less than 10 degrees, by slightly rotating the...

Cant get the outdrive so slide on!!!!!!

Yes, you have to check the alignment of the coupler with the gimble bearing and adjust the engine height if not in line. In addition to that, you need to keep the driveshaft level with the gimble and hub when sliding the drive back in.

Volvo Penta Tilt/Trim Motor and Pump

Interesting that you may have found a "motor only" replacement for the pump. Let us know if it works as I am sure there will be others that would like to have that reference for future similar situations. If so, please give vendor and part number information.

Maybe Dumb first time boat owner maintenance questions.

Remove the drive and you will probably need to replace the gimble and U joints as water has probably gotten in and ruined those. With regards to the "underheating", it is probably a result of a bad thermostat or clogged bypass ports in the thermostat housing. I would remove it completely...

How To? 5.7 GXI Alternator and Serpentine Belt Replacement

It`s fairly easy. Take a picture of the back of the alternator and the belt pathway for reference. Put a socket on the tensioner pulley and rotate it to loosen, pull the belt off the pulley. This will free the alternator for replacement. If replacing the belt, you will need to remove the water...

    Water leak through haul

Pull the drive, it can seem intimidating, but honestly it`s not that bad one you have done it. Build or buy a drive stand, we can help out after that if needed.

What is this part and what to do with it?

I don't think I have ever seen anything that resembles that on my engine.

New engine - No Fire (Volcruiser)

Double check the distributor setting and make sure the proper gear teeth are aligned, it can be tricky. Also, check things like the crank position sensor, make sure its working properly.

PSA, 'Volvo Penta Fuel Pump Rebuild

I did my own a few years back. I used paint remover on the inside of the cylinders to clean the paint out of mine. Been running strong ever since.

5.7 GXI-A Hesitation and loss of WOT

You mention low fuel issue, it is possible that your tank has contaminants that are clogging the fuel pick up when tank low vs filled.

Slight Leak Trim Cylinder - Father’s Day?

Unless it gets worse, I`d make it an end of season project.

    scan tools...which one?

I too have the Rhinda diacom hand held unit. When researching my purchase, I was not aware that any other product besides Rhinda products would work on a VP boat motor. things could have changed, that was three years ago.

    Volvo SX-M

The engine specifics are generally put on the top of the spark arrestor cover on a sticker. Secondly you can find a riveted block tag on the port back side of the engine block. With that number you can obtain specific engine information. You will need to know specifics of your block to obtain...

    5.7 Gxi-f outdrive issue

I agree with the above statement on checking the linkage. It would probably help us better if we knew what type of drive you have, so you might give us that. It could be a bad clutch, bad gears or a bad engine coupler.

5.7GI-300-J: left side cylinders not firing- ignition issue???

If it`s a GI engine is it throttle body injected. The GXI is multi port injected.

Cleaning the LP and HP pumps on fuel pump

I did my own a off season a few years ago. I used a paint stripper on the interior of the passages and holding tank, anywhere there was the paint and fuel together. I just left it in bare aluminum. Going on four years and still running strong. It`s fairly easy, just don't get in a hurry. Drain...
