    divider and heads yes.. adapter plates, powerhead has to come off... have you got a water pressure gauge?

    "There were 3 small stones and a tiny piece of stick in the poppet table cavity after the valve seat." this would give reason to pull divider plate check, clean.. pull powerhead to check, clean adapter plates.. heads could possibly be involved also. water pump "kit"? or jus tha impeller?

    this is a good one...... "Pennzoil Marine Premium Plus" also tha "Pennzoil" full synthetic" if you can find it! they also put out a very "sweet smell".......... makes ya think "race track!"

    first off force didn't offer a 150 till '89.. don't think "anything" force will work ona V6 merc...... jmo.

    trash tha "idle" speed box.. it has white/black, white/red wires going to tha switch boxes.. you may have to make a short white/black jumper that goes between tha bias post of both switch boxes.. reset "max timing" at 23*... if that doesn't help ya probably gonna have a suspect ecu............ jmo.

    justa 'bout everything BUT block half, pistons, rings, center main bearings (different crank) .. as for everything else ya gotta know tha difference, but can be used.. tha 150 is a 2.0 steel sleeve motor and your 175 is a 2.4 chrome (same as 200) bore motor which is tha MAIN difference

    Bass Boat Central, Scream and Fly, Face Book (high performance boating), Chris Carson Marine (Florida)... you may have to go up or down (150 to 200) on horse power and size (2.0 to 2.5) for a replacement?.. jus do ya research on anything, anyone ya might find!!!.. lotta butt-heads out there now...

    normal for older mercs... try a blend or full synthetic.. smoke is good!..

    i'm still wonderin' why merc did't put electrical part values in that manual..??? its got to be tha only one that doesn't have 'em??? good luck with it.. (y)

    maybe if its not to expensive.. tha trigger is tha most dependable electric part on tha motor as for as i'm concerned!.. since i've been doin' these V6 things (since '76 but not tha 3.4).. i've never had a trigger fail!

    you might look on CDI website for stator values and replacement??? tha 3.4 is an odd bird motor anyway.. not much info out there about it.. values not in tha OEM manual is strange for Merc!.. i've looked at everything i have access to and came up with "0" other than parts list... good luck...

    my "internet money" would guess stator but its still justa guess from tha keyboard!..... does your manual give test values of any of tha 'lectrics???

    (under a load) does it act normal at idle up to tha 2800/3000 rpm range???

    they built a 3.4 motor from '83 ta '94 with 300 and 275 ratings.....

    not much experience with tha 3.4... but it sounds like a stator issue.. if it idles fine and goes to tha 2800/3000 rpm under load threshold as normal is what makes it sound like high side of stator.. plus what Faz says.. have you looked for an oem manual? it wiould help ya a lot......
