Well, in the video he drained the block after flushing with a/f... Which seems like a complete waste of a/f, but the block should be empty. Although he didn't clean out the drains either.
Also OP, you mentioned keeping key in "acc" position for a few minutes (assuming you mean ignition on)...
Because they aren't made for a marine application. Accessories, brackets, exhaust, couplers, ignition, etc etc not available.
Merc is making aluminum blocks again for their engines.
Wow! I'm looking forward to doing "fun" cosmetic and stereo stuff again someday. The mechanical condition of my boat always is directly proportional to how clean it is.
BTW, you can substitute "friendly" with any four letter F word of your choice, depending on the competence of the counter help...
So pressure tested the drive, and it was fine. No loss at 10 psi, lower limit of my gauge. Put a couple of pumps of air in (much less than 10 psi) and still had a good hiss coming out the next morning. Rotated prop during both tests. Split the drive, and removed impeller. Unfortunately (?)...
Slots face forward, though there's debate on whether it makes a difference. No hole is probably a perma lube bearing, they sent a screw with mine to remove/plug the zerk
Grr. Went to tune the carb today, and saw steam coming from exhaust. Overheated on muffs. I don't remember how old the impeller was on that drive, but I replace them every other year, so...
Water was flowing out relief ports though, actually seemed like normal flow. Pulled t-stat hose and it...
Turning the shift boot? I'm saying take the cable off and move it in and out by hand
Water coming into the boat or going out?
Again, disconnect cable and try shifting manually. Should be K-Y smooth. That will tell us if it's the cable/drive or an adjustment problem.
It shouldn't move at all...
Again, open ended question of "where do I start"?
"clean carpet" probably wouldn't have been on anybody's top 10.
From all of the "been there, done that" guys here, rot is the thing that turns a boat into junk. Anything mechanical...anything...is relatively cheap and easy in comparison. If you...
Most common cause of self destruction is low gear oil. Was that changed/checked? I'm assuming that you have a 1986 alpha one like me. But yeah, sometimes things fail, especially after 36 years.
The engine should be aligned whenever the outdrive is removed. Misalignment will usually trash the...
When your thread is basically, "I know nothing about boats, I bought a boat, what do I do now?", without a real question, that's pretty much open season for thread direction. And we've settled on rot ;)
Where/how did you mount the O2 sensor? I've been toying with this (but still have a bunch of more important things to do to the boat), and then @achris mentioned this colortune deal, which also looks like a fun toy.
Nobody is saying the transom is rotted. Everybody is saying that before you sink a bunch of money into a 25 year old boat *that was sitting outside for 2 years*, you should take the 15 minutes to see whether you're putting lipstick on a pig or not. The hole drilling is so quick and easy that it...
