Dealing with bogging for too long and need help because I've done just about everything!

I have heard many stories of this EFI system acting up & being difficult to repair. When our cars had carbs they didn’t run as well as EFI esp after a cold start but they were repair-able! With old boats & GM marine engines I prefer carbs, less failure points with respect to wiring and much...

SAFETY ALERT: Bow Seating Hazard (Malibu)

Some of those wakeboard/ski boats have a very low bow design that is just not good at all for rough water. Compare that with an off shore style Center Console or even a DC. Personally, I'd rather have a closed bow with a way of getting up to the front of the boat for trailering/mooring. Flip...

    Replacement Oil Filters

the 4.3s use a smaller diameter filter than the 5.0/5.7s you could use a Sierra marine filter or an auto application for that engine like a Purolator or Wix... The Merc and Sierra filters have gotten much smaller over the years, they are easier to install in a tight installation but not sure if...

    New Boat Launch Ramp

Ours is getting replaced too, the concrete slabs etc has been sitting there for a while, no idea when they will start/finish, if it's on-going when I pull my boat in a few weeks I'll have to drive over to the town ramp which is much nicer, deep with docks right there. Here's the old one, it is...

what do you see wrong with this picture?

If this boat didn’t have a remote filter mount there’s no way you could change it the way the boat is designed. Modern boats scare me!

what do you see wrong with this picture?

My brother has a 2020 Merc 4.5 with the same design filter & it doesn’t make a mess when changing it. A little leaks out but not much.

what do you see wrong with this picture?

Yep anything on the rear or sides is a nuisance to get at.

Water on top of Intake Manifold

While water can drip down from the engine cover on to any part of the engine; if the gasket doesn’t seal or the bolts not torqued 100% you will see a leak on one of the 4 corners of the intake. Remember the rear ones are closed in the intake but open on the cyl heads. Front is open on both...

    Winter storage cover

I cover my bow rider from bow to stern with a custom Taylor Made cover & I built a support frame to keep it from caving in. I don’t shrink it because it’s painted in red Imron. This has worked well here in Long Island for 20 winters. With covers it’s always the support system if you get snow...

Dealing with bogging for too long and need help because I've done just about everything!

A defective knock sensor made our 98 Subaru run like it had no power; I changed that and the speed sensor twice in the time we owned it (18 years). However these faults always set an easily read check engine code; not sure if marine engine management systems do the same thing.

    Water in the intake

When I had my head gasket failure the water was in the oil/engine for about a week before I could get the boat off the mooring, though I did drain it out before I hauled it in. After I got it back on land I changed the oil 3 times and drained the engine after each time it was run. When I pulled...

    Water in the intake

well in that case, we can't say for sure if the water came from a bad gasket between the manifold and the elbow. Was there obvious rust in that exhaust gas passage meaning that water has been in there for a while?

2004 Volvo Penta SX-M1 Outdrive Cracked Bellows.

Do it now you don’t want the drive shaft to corrode to the gimble bearing making the drive nearly impossible to remove. A rule of thumb with I/Os that I have learned is putting off needed repairs is a fools errand. It ALWAYS comes back to make the repair more difficult & expensive. And yes you...
