If you have a roller trailer used in salt water....check this....

They’re lakes Lakes don’t have tides We have tides If you don’t pay attention to tides you WILL be aground. My brother was a lake boater now he’s in Long Island with me so I taught him about tides. And why he can only use the deep town ramp with his bunk trailer.

If you have a roller trailer used in salt water....check this....

I know that no one uses roller trailers in the south or on most lakes but they are much more common here; so people have to be aware of their local conditions. If you listen to internet opinions with no knowledge of your conditions then you can wind up with smithing that won’t work for you. LI...

I've sprung a leak! Help Please!

If you use West System epoxy they have slow hardeners that can be used in warm weather. You have to be careful & not mix up too much at one time because the mix can get REALLY SMOKING HOT. 209 extra slow hardener. I’m used this when I had to fix some rotted wood in the engine compartment one summer.

    4.3 cooling

If the belt is jumping the possibilities are a bent or loose pulley, bad harmonic balancer or a bad tensioner or even a bent bracket.

If you’re boating in lakes & have a good steep ramp then no issue with a bunk. If you’re in a costal area where the tide swings are 1’-2’ and good steep ramps same thing. If you’re on the east coast mid Atlantic to New England with 6-8 feet tide swings and a steep ramp, OK to bunk. Shallow ramp...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

I recall the last time we went to the NASCAR race at Pocono Speedway about half way through the race woman stood up and comically howled “Oh my God I think we have run out of beer!” That was back in the day when beer drinking fistfights were common at NASCAR events….

    My boat is being a boat . . .

We have a real economy boat. A 10’ Walker Bay dinghy with a Suzuki DF2.5. You can run all day on a gallon of gas! Just have to stay in the protected bays.

If you peruse your trailer manufacturer’s part’s catalog you might see that there are different roller bar & crossmember mounts that allow you to lower the boat on the roller trailer. The way they come from the factory is not always optimal. I was able to lower mine approx 2” this way. I could...

help, new fuel pumps and pressure still below specs 2004 5.7 MPI

What I said. I recall reading that Merc revised these cool fuel modules because of problems in the field, I wonder if that has anything to do with the OPs problem of low fuel pressure. Are you sure that the parts used are correct? Also while there may be 12v at the connector what happens when...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

I have a 15 gallon gas caddy that I bought right before Hurricane Sandy but no way am I lugging that thing out to the mooring. The best gas cans I have found for filling boats safely are the VP vented racing cans with the optional gas spout. Expensive but worth it.

help, new fuel pumps and pressure still below specs 2004 5.7 MPI

Other than low voltage to the pump and low fuel volume to the pump if everything is new with the correct parts installed what else causes low fuel pressure?

help, new fuel pumps and pressure still below specs 2004 5.7 MPI

A 2004 boat is old enough that the anti siphon valve could be bad, fuel pick up screen clogged etc. Ever try testing pressures with a remote tank? I’d for sure do that before pulling the engine again. It’s stories like this that make me glad I still have a simple engine with a mechanical fuel...

If you have a roller trailer used in salt water....check this....

Different strokes for different folks. If you have 6-7 feet tidal swings & shallow ramps the roller is the only way unless you restrict yourself to the (2) high tides each 12 hrs. Damned inconvenient!

Engine making new sound? Can I still use it?

That sound combined with the obvious miss suggests a blown head gasket. Time for a mechanic.

Assembling exhaust manifolds, risers and elbows - Loctite 510?

Yep I had to take mine off to replace a leaky steering actuator about 4 years after I installed them and they came right off. My original one piece V6 manifolds on the OMC used zinc plated studs and nuts and guess what even in salt water I never had a problem removing them. Changed the exhaust...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

This is one of the differences between the original all OMC Cobra (1986-1993) and the joint venture with Volvo OMC Cobra (1994-1994). The original is placed in Neutral to pull the drive and then it just slides off because the shifter is in the pivot housing. On the joint venture Cobra which is...

Unable to identify serial number - Mercruiser 5.7 V8 Thonderbolt

If you’re changing the engine you can also look for the GM casting # on the bellhousing that will tell you exactly what you have. To be 100% sure check the casting # of the cyl heads as well. There are charts on line that can de-code these #s for you. With an older boat unless it’s the original...

The local ramps are not anywhere near as nice as the town ramps. But the are close and convenient. They are all shallow, and unless you want to put your rear wheels and differential in salt water, that boat's not coming off the trailer if it's not high tide. Local conditions mean everything...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Well that's good that the coolant overflow issue was really nothing... the newer boats have a vapor recovery system like cars have had for many years, I guess there can be issues with them, I had a few check engine lights over the years due to that. Fuel economy, well that's one reason why I...
