Engine just clicks but no start

Also forgot to mention a connection can be good enough that you can measure voltage present BUT not good enough to allow enough amperage to flow for the starter to engage & turn the engine. If those battery cables are original they could have all green corrosion up inside the insulation. When I...

Engine just clicks but no start

Even if the connections look fine you have to find out if the main lug terminal on the starter is getting 12v with the battery switch on and the red/yellow wire terminal is getting 12v when the key is turned to start. If not you need to go thru all the connections including the engine ground...

    Should I be worried

While it does seem a bit short it does have a pair of 6 lug axles so it should have a pair of 5200 lb axles. Why not making up a set longer bunks that go all the way to the end of the transom. I don’t think the boat can go much more further forward due to the position of the tongue. First thing...

2001 4.3 vortec oil is milky

Those engines sometimes crack on the inside of the cyls which will be visible when you pull the intake. The intake itself can crack right under the thermostat housing and the intake gaskets can leak water in if they were over torqued. The torque specs for the Vortec are much lower than those for...

2001 4.3 vortec oil is milky

Might also want to think about adding at lease a half (block only) closed cooling system. Reason being one of the biggest drawbacks to inboards vs outboards is that inboards do not self drain like outboards. You forget once to drain when freezing temps hit & you’re done, new engine time. The...

Is my Mercruiser fuel injected or carb?

Agreed I’d always want a 4bbl carb in a marine application on a V6 or V8. They are a bit more complex to set up & rebuild than a 2 bbl but I feel it’s worth it.

Is my Mercruiser fuel injected or carb?

Looks like a Mercarb (modified Rochester 2bbl).

    Sundowner 205 prop

I have a similar size boat (1988 F/W H-200), same hull with different top cap (H-200 is the bow rider, Sundowner is the cuddy cabin). Mines got a pre Vortec 4.3 4bbl with a Cobra drive with a 1.68:1 ratio. I’m running a 15x17 alu prop and it performs about the same as yours, perhaps a bit slower...

VP SX-M Trim Hose replacement without pulling drive?

thanks for posting this, that is a tricky job for sure. when I needed new trim hoses on my Cobra I had my mechanic do it but that was way back in 2005 or 2006. Still good now lucky.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

or like the rum runners who ran between Long Island and New England during the Prohibition. That boat is from Long Island ya know lol! The crossing between where I live and Stamford is only about 10 miles.......

Swap an OMC 5.8 with OMC 5.7

Did the HGs blow because of an overheat? If so did you get the cyl heads checked out by a machine shop? Overheats can cause small cracks in the cyl heads that you can’t always spot but that can cause leaks. Oftentimes the block is still good when that happens.

Swap an OMC 5.8 with OMC 5.7

I also believe that is true about the transom mount. Now you have the chance to get away from the OMC parts & repair headache I for sure would do it. Plus it makes the boat way easier to sell if you do want to sell it

Swap an OMC 5.8 with OMC 5.7

https://www.crowleymarine.com/omc/oem-parts/stern-drive/1992/584aplamh/intake-manifold-exhaust-cooling Ford exhaust PS GM Y pipe is the same so you probably could re-use the parts from the upper exhaust pipes, and hoses from the Ford engine with the manifolds and elbows required for the GM 5.7...

Swap an OMC 5.8 with OMC 5.7

What you’d have to do is go thru OMC parts manuals to see what parts are different between the GM engine versions vs Ford. Likely items to check: Bellhousing Exhaust Y pipe Exhaust down pipes If it were me I’d take this chance to swap the whole thing over to Merc; if you want to keep the boat...

    battery charger question....

That's what I thought, I'm not going to use that one anymore. The NOCO seems to charge at a rate safer for the batteries.

    Exhaust Bellows 3.0 cobra

If that goes back to the transom mount yes. Looks like it connects to the power steering cooler then should go back to the transom mount behind the engine Ford 2.3 liter OHC engine right? Those were used in all kinds of small Fords throughout the 70s and 80s
