My wee little motor won't run full speed (2000 OMC 3.5hp)

I don't remember an online fuel filter on mine. Check the parts breakdown and see if that is stock. Could be restricting, otherwise float bowl could be working incorrectly.

1998 johnson 115 lower unit leak

Prop shaft might be scored? Dealer usually does a pressure test even though one guy told me the true way is a vacuum test. Could you be confused with just a rich running outboard with dripping down through the exhaust? Usually if there is a leak you will get water in with the oil.

Debug Weak Spark on Lower Cylinder 1998 8hp.

I had a slightly older one and if I'm correct with yours instead of 2 separate coils (one for each cylinder) it had one duel coil with two leads. I lost spark to one cylinder and a shop had to find it for me. So to answer one of your questions, yes one side can fail.

    Glad I could help. Cheers.

    9.9 electric start

Here is a breakdown of a 1996. Not sure it's your model but this is what it should have. Part number 2. The main hot (red) wire from the starter should go to it...

    Stopped working

Might sound like a stupid question but did you check for spark before you did all this?

    9.9 electric start

That should have a starter solenoid somewhere on the motor. Start button goes to the solenoid and then to the starter. Follow the starter wires to it. You can manually jump the solenoid to see if that is the problem. If so replace it.

    F4 water issue

I do have an infrared thermo. What should that read and where do I point it? In my day we used a wax stick up on the head. Pump wise, if you read above I checked it and even though it's used it looked fairly new. (Impeller fins are still mostly straight) I would rather not put anything more into...

Alarm goes off when trying to turn key on

If I remember right those old control boxes had a spot where you stuck a small metal thing in and you could set off the alarm. Near the key switch. I think maybe your problem is in the control box. Definitely a tough one. Did you think about taking it back to the guy who put it in?

60HP 1989 Johnson outboard low compression

Read the whole thread...all 6 pages of it. My advice? But a rebuilt power head exchange or have it machined and rebuild it yourself but don't hone it. The time and energy it takes it not worth the return. Motor is abused or used up. In my world if you need a carbureted 50-60 or 70 hp outboard go...

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

Your description of turn over is confusing. I'm assuming you mean it won't run. Obviously it's not stuck and will rotate. Like some someone else try spraying fuel directly in the carb or some starting fluid. If it farts or runs for a little bit then you know it's a fuel problem. Also, spark wise...

My wee little motor won't run full speed (2000 OMC 3.5hp)

I have the Evinrude version of that motor that I got a so called deal on too. I messed with that thing for WAY to long and had similar symptoms just like you have. I like to think I'm a pretty good mechanic but could never solve that one. Threw it away. Years later I wondered if it was a...

    F4 water issue

Well TT that I have touched before, at least in my experience, will get warm or even slightly hot so not sure I agree with your first line but it should not get this hot. To reclarify, it doesn't burn my skin but it's hot enough that you don't want to keep touching it. Also, I am running it in a...

    F4 water issue

I agree on the TT results ( to hot and not a solid stream) though must not be steam because it looks the same at start up as it does after running but water starts out cool and then gets to hot. I've done leak down tests on cars but the one time I attempted to do one on a small outboard I could...

    F4 water issue

On the first part I agree. I just pulled it back apart and the cup was correct....and it only goes in one way. Now the pump kit isn't new but it looks pretty good. Impeller knobs are still straight but she me wear on the plate. If it was an Evinrude it would still pump fine. So two things, hole...

    F4 water issue

Is that true? Because when I look at YouTube's of that engine, when they complete the replacement they seem to pee pretty well. Mine looks like a combo of water and mist or possibly steam.

    F4 water issue

So your cup only fits one way in the plastic water pump housing? Please clarify. That's the way the evinrudes 6 to 8 how are but not sure on this outboard. Also, what motor is yours?

    F4 water issue

Top of my thread says 2000 Yamaha 4 hp 4 stroke. Not sure what else to say. That being said, I now have a theory. The stainless cup that the impeller site in, does that have to be in a certain position? I watched a YouTube video and it looked like maybe the hole in the top has to be located a...

    F4 water issue

Hi, I have a 2000 Yamaha four horse four stroke. Doesn't seem to be peeing much water but runs fine, at least off the boat and in a tank. Do these motors not run much water out the telltales? Went ahead and pulled the lower unit thinking the water pump was spun and everything looked brand new...
