takes about 3 minutes to pull the inner fender liner. not sure how long it takes to pull the fender. however If I recall, you could screw a bit of hardware cloth over the opening.
there is also a cabin air filter.
air intake is just above that, and I believe runs to the fender. I think I recall seeing it when I pulled the fender liner on the GMC to get to the starter.
without running the coolant thru the drive, you will overheat it.
