High oil pressure smell of gas in oil

And if you are using an advance timing light when setting base timing make sure the dial is on ZERO...this tricked me a few times....lol.... PS take a look at the center electrode porcelain on your spark plugs, the depoits on this will tell you if its running out of fuel (probably blistered...

    Exhaust Manifold Replacement

Nope 100% salt water here in Long Island NY. Kept on a salt water mooring for approx 6 month season each year. In that pic I had just installed reman heads and new exhaust so everything was freshly painted.

    Impeller challenged...?

The final adjustment should be done with the drive off using the OMC alignment tools, yep. First though you really should check the shift rod height in the lower unit. Next, the tool that holds the bellcrank at the 90* angle to the pivot housing goes on first then you use the shift cable tool...

    Exhaust Manifold Replacement

if you want, take a new bolt for the manifolds to a hardware store, and have them match up the thread pitch, to 2 longer bolts. Get the 2 bolts, cut the heads off and cut a slot in the stub that's left. Then thread these in the first and last holes, slide on your gasket, manifold and install the...

High oil pressure smell of gas in oil

The other thing that can cause high oil pressure is water in the oil. If you’re not seeing it on the dipstick look inside the valve cover

Engine rpm is not stable below 2000 rpm

thanks for posting this up, I am a loyal Quadrajet fan but if something happens to this one there really aren't a lot of good cores left so being able to use the easily found 1409 is a nice option. I tried the Holley that OMC and Volvo used in place of the Q-Jet and it never ran right so I took...

Bow riders with best engine access?

Agreed I have not seen one late model bowrider/I/O style boat that I'd buy, compared with my old boat that allows complete access once I pull out the rear seats. I had to re-configure it to my needs, with 2 seperate rear seats (a pair of 37" wide pontoon bench seats) and made the bulkhead behind...

    Kills at midrange throttle settings

A '94 I'd think is the Weber 4bbl which is similar to the Edelbrock 1409. Merc used Quadrajets till about '89/90 then switched to the 4bbl Weber.

2002 Volvo Penta 5.0 idles great then dies in gear

Did you in inspect the anti siphon valve? I had this problem on my '88 FW H-200 years back. Replaced with a better quality one and no problems since.

1993 Mercruiser 4.3 2bbl carb running out of power

pine sol? never heard of that! Yep Berryman's but wear gloves/goggles etc. ESP when blowing out passages! And you need an air compressor, compressed air cans don't cut it. A little hot dog compresser will work. you can find tools made especially for cleaning out carb passages without damage on...

Starting mercruiser 350 after boat almost sinks

When I had water in a cyl & oil due to blown HGs back in Aug ‘16, what I did was run it, drain out water and change oil, repeat 4 times but made sure to drain water each time so it could not seep back into the motor oil. I didn’t take the engine apart till the winter ‘16-‘17 but because I fogged...

1993 5.7 Mercruiser Low Power and Stumble at WOT

actually after looking closely at the vids it looks like the Weber 4bbl not the quadrajet. however the same general princupals apply.

1993 5.7 Mercruiser Low Power and Stumble at WOT

Dump out your water separating fuel filter into a mason jar & let it sit. See what the gas looks like...crud on the bottom, layer of water? What do the spark plugs look like? What color are the deposits on the center electrode insulator? Blistered white (too lean), black (too rich) or light...

    can someone tell me what motors are in a 1987 28' Chris-Craft 283 Amerosport 262 ?

That can vary quite a bit depending on hw the exhaust/cooling is set up, mine run 85-90 at idle and might rise to 135 after coming off plane but then cool off.

    can someone tell me what motors are in a 1987 28' Chris-Craft 283 Amerosport 262 ?

Steaming from the exhaust? It’s possible for the exhaust to overheat while the engine is not overheating so what the mechanic said could be true. I would get an IR temp gun and check the exhaust temps at the manifolds and elbows; see how hot they are getting.

Help! 95 5.0 efi ford firing order

There are eBay sellers that have original factory shop manuals and also in that year range the Volvo SX & OMC Cobra were identical products. So if you can’t find an OEM Volvo manual see if you can find one for a 1995 OMC Cobra; the OMC manuals are actually better written and go into more detail.

Help! 95 5.0 efi ford firing order

Agreed I wish people starting out with repairing their own boat would make their first purchase: A factory shop manual! Yes we can answer questions not answered in shop manuals because they are written for professional mechanics but you must first learn the basics.

Boat doesn’t idles smooth. Is my Timing off?

Is this a 2 bbl or 4 bbl, Rochester or Holley? The points need regular maintenance, I usually replace mine every 4-5 seasons or when really pitted.

Boat doesn’t idles smooth. Is my Timing off?

You need cleaning tools and compressed air to properly clean a carb. Just spraying or soaking in carb cleaner isn’t near enough.
