    Ford 302 pinging

And don't cheap out on parts. Seen it to many times when someone uses cheap wires and such. The problems get worse.

Dual Battery ... Wiring fail or I just don't understand?

I just make sure they are charged fully in the fall then unhook the grounds and leave them in the boat. In the spring I hook them up and start the boat up. Usually get 5-6 years before replacement, but when they get that old, they still work, I just replace them for the reason they are getting...

Replacing shift cable. What are these parts for?

Do not tighten the set screw to tight! Just snug it up and back it off a real tiny bit. If too loose, shifting will be impossible to adjust, to tight and the cable will bind.

    change steering shaft

I've used the new repair deal on a few, they make them for alphas also. You cut out the face of the upper ring. To me it's much easier and access is good. It comes with everything shown...

Removal of alluminum boat fiberglass top cap

Nice. I was wondering if the top rail was there. Looks like they simply added to glass top to an existing platform.

Is something wrong with the jack on my trailer?

I put a small stone under the wheel to keep it from moving. A small wood wedge works to.

    Polishing or paint

Well yes it’s work. But to me worthwhile. Easier to fix a gel scratch than a paint scratch. If you sand through the gel, you can decide weather to paint or re-gel at that point.

    Prop Id help-what is this?

Polished up and clear coated would make a nice wall hanger! Unless you know someone you could use it and sell it.

    water in cabin bilge

I know on some boats the fwd area sits a tad lower at anchor than the aft. Usually have a bilge pump in there. But keeping the water from coming in first is to find where it’s coming from. There should be telltale water lines where it dribbles in.

Rapid trailer jerk at higher speeds

I see you want to replace the transom with treated. Don't do that. Treated causes corrosion on aluminum. Now I did read some treated stuff nowadays is ok, but I don't know what it's called.

Is something wrong with the jack on my trailer?

Mine broke off the jack the other day. I didn't see it was sideways and it broke when trying to move it. I'm thinking of finding a better caster and bolting or welding it to the jack. They always fight ya.

Removal of alluminum boat fiberglass top cap

Ah yes. That would be more work than he needs to do for that. Unless the rail is actually under the glass top. Sure would make it lighter!

Removal of alluminum boat fiberglass top cap

Being an aluminum boat it should be stiffer than a fiberglass boat. Still make a couple of plywood cradles to set the boat on, they should extend up to the rubrail area. And measure everything and document it all before removal, during repairs and before assembly.

    Is this a reasonable quote?

Wowzers! Never saw one that bad. Glad you didn't ignore the noises. It could have been worse if the thing locked up and broke other stuff.

    Caprice Shudder at Hwy Speed

As a mechanic myself, I've taken back more than a few to the alignment shop the next day. The printout says one thing, but the result is different. They correct the issue quickly and then it's fine. I get a kick out of telling me I need this or that, when I've just replaced that part myself.

    Is this a reasonable quote?

Yes, lack of service in the past. Can't tell you how many times I've seen that. Possibly a bit high but then again, they don't know if any more issues will pop up. We used to quote high and hope it comes in as less after the repairs, which works out better for you. Sometimes no matter how well...
