    I would make the backing out of a combination of starboard to fill the V and use the backing plate supplied with most U-bolts. instead of removing the 6 rivets, I would just cut off the nubs and file the edge . original material was aluminum by the looks of it.

    Every cat style boat from Freeman and Calcutta have the pump box at the stern. if you never go on plane, you can have it in the middle however to keep it fed with water, it needs to be at the stern

    its 28 miles from my launch spot 5 minutes from my house to the ICW unless I trailer it for 45 minutes. average trip is usually 100-120 miles
